help with sippy's at night

We still give DS a 1/2 sippy of milk before bed, then lay him down with a full sippy of water. Lately he finishes that water and then cries for more either right away or in the middle of the night.

He wakes up wet every morning now even wth a size up overnight diaper.

What do we do? thoughts, suggestions ideas? Not sure how to wean him and us of this habit.

Re: help with sippy's at night

  • when I need DS to understand that he can't have any more, I tell him as I give him his last drink.  So around 8pm (he goes to bed at 9) I'll tell him, "This is your last juice/milk/water".  "You can't get any after this."

When he asks I usually won't give him any.  However, sometimes I've given him about an inch of plain water and he finishes it and doesnt' ask for any more.  I will not give him more than an inch of water if it's close to bedtime because of wetting through the diaper.

  • DS doesn't get a sippy in bed with him. I tell him it's because I don't want his jammies to get wet. If he calls for water in the night, I go in and hand him the sippy that is on his bookshelf, then put it right back after he's had a drink. Works for us.

  • DD doesn't get a sippy before bed anymore and doesn't need anything to sleep with either. At this point I would just stop doing it altogether.
