Back story - before this pregnancy, DH and I went back and forth on the "IUIs while he's deployed" thing. After this loss, we both really want to go ahead with it. RE hopes that closer monitoring could make a difference, so I've spent the morning calling and getting things set up.
Anyhow, they got us in for Friday, at 8 am, and that's all the works with DH's schedule. They recommend 3-5 days of abstaining for the deposit to maximize the number of vials they get out of one deposit. Last we did anything was Saturday late night, putting it at 5 and a half days. I was told that pushing day 6 was usually okay, but I'm being admittedly paranoid, because we can't do another deposit. Doing something today would only put us at 2.5 days.
Am I being totally insane to worry about an extra 8-10 hours? If you've done IUI's, how long does your SO abstain? I'm sorry if this is really stupid, I'm just so nervous about all of this.
Re: Question about IUIs. Longish.
::Lurking::
It depends on if he has any MFI. Usually, if the sperm aren't the greatest, then the RE will recommend a longer abstaining time: 3-5 days. If there's no MFI, then only 36-72 hours of abstaining is recommended.
The "fresher" batch means that you will have less chance of the old decrepit sperm making their way into the ute.
My DH doesn't have any MFI, so with the last IUI, we BDed on Sat night (per RE's orders), and IUIed on Monday afternoon. His SA numbers on Monday afternoon were "super great" (RE's terms, not mine.)
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
This for me too. And good luck!
I don't have knowledge to share about IUIs, however, what everyone else said made sense to me and I think you are making a good decision! I'm so glad that this is an option for you!!! (((hugs)))
I was on vacation when I heard the news, I'm so sorry hun.
Wishing you lots of luck.
This. GL to you!!!
As long as his numbers are good that you will be fine abstaining only 2.5 days. Dh and I usually abstain only 2-3 days when I know he has to give a deposit. I am glad that you will be able to do IUI while your dh is deployed. WIll keep you in my thoughts.

My RE recommends sex 3 days before "deposit" so that DH is "refilled and refreshed" - waiting too long before can cause #s/quality to decline actually. Either way I think you are good.
Good luck!
I just did my first month of IUI, my RE's office says abstain 2-4 days before giving the sample but my RE personally says he thinks fresher sperm is better and actually my dh's sample on the second day had higher counts and better movement - so if your dh is up to it - go for it now.
Good luck - I hope this works for you!
I'm glad to hear you guys are finding some "work arounds"
If your DH doesn't have sperm issues, you should be fine to do today. My DH has low counts and he's only told to abstain 2-3 days.
I agree with most of the others...I'd rather have one vial of good, strong sperm than 10 vials of old sperm.
Fool around this afternoon.
