So today I have a day off, and I'm trying to get some home organization done - hence the boring question. We have a three bedroom home - the third is currently an office/misc room that will become Jocelyn's bedroom. I'm trying to figure out what to do with all the stuff that is in there now. We just finished our basement which gave us a huge amount of space to store almost everything that was in the office, except coats and the dog bowls! Chris built this house before we met, and there is no coat/entry closet (or a linen closet - didn't cross his mind?), so we've been using the office closet as such. Now that Josie's clothes will take up that space, I'm not sure where to put the coats where they will be convenient. We have a wall rack that holds a few near the back door, but will not hold them all. If you also don't have a dedicated closet, where to do keep coats/jackets in your home?
Re: boring ?: where do you keep coats?
We used to have a huge entryway closet in our mudroom that fit all seasons of our coats, but we walled it up so we could expand one of our bathrooms. :-)
We put a smaller closet on the other side of the mudroom and enclosed our stackable washer/dryer, but it's SO much smaller than our old one. We can only fit one season's worth of coats/outerwear.
The rest of our coats, we store in the basement. We have a couple big storage shelves that had about 3-4 feet between then. DH rigged up a big rod to fit between them to hold our off-season coats. It works great. Plus there's floor storage underneath them for boots.
Is your laundry room close to the door you go in and out of most often? Maybe hang some cute hooks in there for the coats.
We have this rolling rack with these storage bags for all of our coats. The coat that we wear everyday during the winter gets hung on a over-the-door hook in the kitchen pantry (right next to the steps to the garage), but we're going to hang a row of hooks on the wall behind the door to the basement/garage so that we can hang O's daycare bag + the coats.
