moms who pump -- question for you

so someone on here had suggested that you don't need to wash the pump parts completely at every pumping session if you put them in the fridge after - anyone do this or think it's ok? right now i am scrubbing them all each time but in the middle of the night its a little tiring -- i'm an exclusive pumper too by the way.

Re: moms who pump -- question for you

  • I've been doing this for months and haven't had any problems. Just wash them at least once every 24 hours.

Interesting...I hate cleaning them after every use.

  • Me, no problems.

  • Medela makes microwave steamer bags that you can throw the parts in (with a couple ounces of water) and steam clean them. Each bag can be used about 20 times. I use them to steam clean the bottle nipples too. They've really come in handy!

It says right on those bags that you have to wash and rinse the parts furst anyway. I just use them like, once a week for sterilization.

Just put everything still together straight in the fridge. It works because it keeps the milk on the parts from going bad.

  • I wish I knew that, I washed them every time I pumped and my hands were getting so dry they were bleeding, and lotion wasn't helping much. I only pumped for a month because of that.   I would use that Medela steam bag once a day.
