A few weeks ago, DH and I lost our camera. We have NO clue where it is, or when the last time we used it was. I haven't the slightest idea what happened to it.
That being said, we didn't really like it anyway. It was a Nikon coolpix, and I couldn't stand how we would go to take the picture, and it wouldn't take it, but rather wait 10 seconds, and then take the picture when my child was either looking down or not in the shot anymore because he/she found something cooler.
So we are going to bite the bullet and get an SLR camera. A couple people have reccommended either a Nikon or a Canon. What do you have? What do you like about it? And, if you don't mind me asking, how much was it?
Re: SLR Camera reccommendation?
Are you looking for an entry level dslr? Most start around $500 for the body and kit lens and go up from there.
Also, I'd say go and hold the cameras and play with the controls of both a Nikon and Canon. You will probably prefer one over the other. Both have their advantages and both are great cameras. I'd stick to either canon or nikon though. From what I've read, the nikons seem to have better entry level glass but there are more options for cheaper lenses that will auto focus on the canon when you decide to upgrade your kit lens (if you start with one).
Okay, to end this long response, I have a nikon. It's the d40x. I think you can still find them but they are the entry level from years back. The closest would be the d3000/d5000 that is out now. I'm not an expert at it by any means but I love the camera, I love learning about photography, and I love taking pictures of DS. So it's a hobby.
Let me know if you have questions.
Seeing as I just bought mine last week I don't really feel that I am qualified to answer, but I'm gonna anyways : ) I got the Nikon D3000. It's your most basic DSLR, but it takes amazing pictures, even with an amatuer photographer : )

shop around for price, as I got it about 2 weeks ago for $50 less...
Eveyone I've talked to said nikon or cannon is fine, go and play with them and see which one feels better to you.

Its easy to use, and great quality.
