I'm not here to judge but I am interested to see who/how many Mommas are still bfing/pumping. BFing is tough and am proud I made it this far! I am not here to start a battle so I did not include any questions for Mommas who didn't attempt BFing in order to try and limit the "I'm better than you" mentality that can come with a BFing conversation.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk?
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle?
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why?
If no, why did you stop?
Re: Former and Current BF/EPers Come in-Poll
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? going back to work. my supply has dropped and i'm just trying to keep up with my Charlie. i'm pumping right now actually.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? i hope to ebf until he is 1. i haven't had to supplement yet and i am going to try my hardest not to but we'll see what happens!
If no, why did you stop?
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? DS isn't all that interested in nursing during the day, so the weekends are a struggle to get him to eat sometimes. He's used to bottles during the day at his sitter's I suppose.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Hoping to make it to a year.
Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I haven't HAD to supplement, but I've given DS formula on occassion for the sake of convenience (like we've been out & I didn't have any pumped milk to bring) or DH let me sleep while he fed DS.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yuppers!
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? I haven't had any BFing problems (other than bloody nips at the beginning and a clogged duct once) but I HATE pumping! I hate the amount of time that it takes, I hate the way it feels, I hate obsessing over my supply, I hate finding time during the work day to pump, I hate having to do it right before bed so I can STTN, I hate getting my bag ready before work, I hate that I always forget a part or break a part of my pump while at work, I HATE PUMPING!
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? I hope to continue feeding BM till Max is old enough for "real" milk but I am taking it day by day, I'm not afraid nor will I be ashamed if I have to go to formula--food is food!
Have you had to supplement at all? Why? Yes-Max had 2 bottles of formula--when I went back to work he also went through a growth spurt--2 things that caused my freezer stash to be depleted completely
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? Low supply issues.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I would say that my daughter gets about 1/2 BM, 1/2 formula at this point. My supply has really dropped over the past month or so, and it is now a big challenge to pump milk for her. I feel good if I can send 2 bottles of BM a day to daycare. I'd love to be able to give her some BM everyday for a year, but I'm not sure if that will happen.
I haven't had any hard issues. I feel really fortunate. I'm a SAHM and still BF. DD is getting solids too.
I'll continue until we are able to do IVF again. I will have to stop before I begin the hormone shots. That'll be a couple months at least due to insurance issues.
I NIP and haven't had any supply issues so I have supplemented any. I pumped some in the beginning thinking I would want help with feedings sometimes. DD has had maybe 15-20 bottles of BM at this point but I stopped pumping a few months ago as I pretty much always have DD with me and I found I didn't need any help with night feedings or anything.
Good luck. Do whatever works for you and your LO and feel good about it.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? Without a doubt, getting KTFU again. It has killed my supply.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Come hell or high water, I want him to get breast milk for a year. I will be about 7 months pregnant at his first birthday. This may not be realistic, but it's my current goal. Even if I can only pump an ounce or two, I want him to have it for a year.
Have you had to supplement at all? Why? In the last several weeks I have had to start supplementing with formula by his last feeding of the day. On a typical day, I'm supplementing with about 3 ounces of formula - which doesn't sound like a lot, but for him it's the difference in a full feeding or half a feeding before bedtime.
If no, why did you stop?
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk?
Yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle?
First the first 8 weeks her latch was bad. My nipples bled and were in horrible condition the entire time. Now, my supply has tanked thanks to AF.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why?
I plan on doing it for over a year (if I can), until we start TTC again. I had to supplement the first few days before my milk came it. She was hungry, I fed her.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yes!
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? At first it was the transition of going back to work and having to pump on a consistent basis. Now it's trying to nurse a baby who won't sit still. Any tips?
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I plan of BF for at least another year - when he's a year and a half. When he was a newborn I supplemented with formula because I thought I wasn't producing enough. My milk production was fine - there was just so much I needed to learn that the breastfeeding class did not cover.I think that was well-asked. No flames here.
I EBF until 3 mos (I know, so long, huh?) then went back to work. I pumped 3 bottles a day until 5 mos when my supply dropped. I pumped 1 bottle a day, nursed in the morning and bedtime, and FF'd the other 2 bottles until 6 1/2 mos. Ella self weaned on Father's Day weekend. She'd just goof around and teethe on me then complain until she got a bottle but I was still making milk.
I pumped every 12 hours til I dried up and mixed my milk in with her formula until my milk was gone.
My original goal was 6 mos and I'm glad we got there. I EBF my DS until he was 1. Every kid is different.... I'm proud of both of them.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yup
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? I didn't have any real obstacles. Right now, my supply has dropped, so I'm eating oatmeal and drinking water like crazy. I have a crazy freezer stash though.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I plan to bf until he's 1...my mom said I'll probably do it even longer...really depends though. He has had formula...his first meal from the womb. Then I was being lazy giving him formula bottles when my nips would hurt like crazy. The pedi told me it's easier to get milk from a bottle than breast...I was then determined to ebf...no formula. He hasn't had any since he was maybe 2 weeks old.
We still BF, but supplement with formula when I'm not around or we're at certain events (1-2 bottles a week maybe). At 6 months, I stopped pumping (because I was starting to just hate it and wanted to convenience of formula for certain situations).
The hardest thing for us has been me getting sick so often. Seven times since he's born, I get random bouts of high fever and nausea. We're not sure if it's a clogged duct, reoccurring infections of some sort, or what. It's usually a 24-48 hour thing, but it's TERRIBLE when it happens.
I keep changing my mind about how long we go. When we got to 6 months, I said a year. But about once a week I decide I'm ready to wean, but then I'm too lazy to go through with it.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? YES!
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? The first few weeks made my toes curl... and we had a small rough patch when she started getting her top teeth
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? No supplementing.... and I will continue EBF until she is 12-14 months. Then I may continue at morning/night to get her thru cold/flu season next year

What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? Pumping -- I've never been able to get a decent output (most I've *ever* pumped is 5 oz total). And now he's becoming increasingly more distracted while BFing, which is horribly frustrating.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I'd like to make it to a year. We had to supplement a few times when he was a month or two old -- I had supply issues that left him screaming at the breast for hours.
If no, why did you stop?
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? going back to work and mastitis at 6 wks PP now i have one B cup and once C cup.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? i hope to ebf until he is 1. i haven't had to supplement yet and i am going to try my hardest not to but we'll see what happens!
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yup
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? My hatred of pumping. I hate everything about it. I work FT ( have been working since she was 3.5 mths). I hate stressing about having enough milk, my freezer stash, washing pump parts, packing my bag, finding space in the fridge at work. I could go on and on..if I could nurse all the the time I would be SO happy
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? I plan to go the full year and hopefully continue to do mornings and night feeds until she decides to wean (up to 2 years). Have you had to supplement at all? Why? Nope no supplementing never a drop of formula (other than the mix up at daycare when she got a bottle of formula I was FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!)
If no, why did you stop?
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? H deciding he was finished nursing at 7 months. We fought until he was 8 months, but I ended up just going to EPing
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I plan on giving him 100% BM until a year. After that I'd still like half of his milk intake to be BM. I will probably only pump once or twice a day after a year and should get enough. I hope to give him half BM from 12-18 months and some BM up to 2 years. I would've nursed him in the mornings and night until 18 months, but he had other plans.
The new hold i've been doing with DS is cute and he seems to say look momma i'm sitting like a big boy.
have LO sit on your lap facing you and take their legs and wrap them around your wasit and then depended on their height the boob should be about month level and it works perfectly. GL
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? yes, mostly. I'm supplimenting 6oz of formula per day during the week
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? My supply started to drop a few weeks ago and DS hit a growth spurt and I'm having a hard time keeping up. I've tried everything - Fenugreek, tea, power pumping and now More Milk Plus and I'm not seeing much of a result. I'm having a very hard time dealing with it...it makes me want to cry.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I hope to last until the beginning of October if possible, but I'm at the point where I just want to make it one more day. The earliest I'll quit is mid-September. Hopefully. If anything, I may cut back to pumping as much as possible and just keep supplimenting with formula.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yes and solids of course
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? Stupid people interfering with feedings and or pumping.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Until I can start him on whole milk
Have you had to supplement at all? Nope
Can I answer for both my girls?
DD1 I BF for 9 months:
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? I got so many clogged ducts w/ her! + she was a super lazy eater (nurse's term) and would take an hour to eat every time!
If no, why did you stop? By 9 months, I was just done.
DD2 I BF for 5.5 months:
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? I am on major antihistamines for chronic hives. It was a struggle keeping my supply up while having to take meds daily (sometimes multiple times a day) that dry up your supply.
If no, why did you stop? I got bad food poisoning and got very dehydrated. Couldn't even support a sip of water in 24 hours! That in addition to the meds I am taking completely dried up my supply. It sucked

Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Nope, but I have come to terms with not breastfeeding anymore.
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? Going back to work, mastitis and AF returning.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I wish I could have gone to a year but we only made it six months or so.
If no, why did you stop? I had mastitis really badly (almost had to have surgery), and it pretty much killed my supply on the one side. Then, about a month later my body decided it didn't want to make anymore.
That's a great idea. I'll try it, thanks!
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? -Yes
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? -
Being the only one to feed her overnight, waking up engorged, the couple times I had blocked ducts
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why?-
I plan to go until she's one, though DH has told me I "can" stop earlier b/c I really hate pumping. She's gotten 2-3 bottles of formula, the first were when she started STTN my supply tanked and I had just wasted all my freezer stash on a night at Grandma's. It leveled out in a couple days. She also got one bottle the night of DH's graduation b/c I didn't want to nurse her during the ceremony. She hasn't had any since.
If no, why did you stop? N/A
Yup!
Biggest obstacle ... getting him to eat enough when he was sick with bronchiolitis and ear infections a few months ago.
I'll BF/pump through a year at least!
I mostly pump since he isn't interested in eating when he first wakes up and he goes to daycare. Even on weekends, he's not always willing to eat when I need to pump, and he gets so distracted during the day, so we feed him bottles. I'm mostly down to just feeding him from the boob at bedtime.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? No
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? My biggest BFing obstacle was being so shy. I only felt comfortable nursing at home, so that made it hard for us to go out anywhere. I just hated pumping.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why?
If no, why did you stop? I stopped BFing for selfish reasons. Although we never did have a goal. We went exclusively for 6 months. I was tired, and my hormones from nursing were crazy. My supply also started dwindling once LO started solids. But, I still feel very guilty even though I know he would've stopped nursing eventually. Even though I feel guilty, I don't regret my decision. I nursed my son for 6 months, and some people give up because it "hurts too bad". I nursed him when I couldn't get out of bed because of my spinal fluid leaking after my epidural. It would've been easy for me to quit then, but I pushed through and he got the best of the best.
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yes, in the morning and at night
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? getting my body to produce enough milk to provide E with enough for daycare
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? I plan on continuing until he decides he is done (he has started to self wean) I have had to supplement from day one, I just don't produce enough breast milk to satisfy him throughout the day.
If no, why did you stop?
Are you still feeding your LO breast milk? Yes...she hates formula.
What was/has been your biggest BF/pumping obstacle? Clogged ducts, finding a pumping schedule that fit w/ my teaching schedule, & now finding the time to pump now that I'm a SAHM.
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? We supplemented in the first 2 weeks. My milk didn't come in very quickly which led us to EPing. I plan to EP until she's a year.
If no, why did you stop?
If yes-how long do you plan on continuing? Have you had to supplement at all? Why? Till he's at least a year then we'll see how things go. LO has dairy/soy/wheat/gluten issues. BM is best for him otherwise he'd be on Neocate, so I'm going to continue until he can tolerate something else, but I miss cheese and pizza badly lately. We had to supplement with EBM - I'm proud to say that he has never had any formula after the sugar water the nurses gave him when he was born. Nothing wrong with formula - I'm just pleased I was able to do this.
