Upstate NY Babies

Confession..

Pretty flameworthy probably. :)

I really HATE Wegman's.. I took Eve to the McKinley one a few weeks back on a sunday because they had good deals in their ad. Well that was a mistake.. I wanted to get wegman's brand Diet Dr. Pepper, but apparently it doesn't exist.. and the store was a MOB SCENE.. which I guess isn't that surprising for that location on a Sunday.. So I left pretty frustrated..

I decided to go back today.. so I went to the one at Transit and Losson.. which is a smaller store.. and its a tuesday.. Well.. still a mob scene.. less customers.. but all sorts of employees with carts everywhere stocking stuff.. Shouldn't they do that late at night? The only thing that Wegmans has that Tops or Walmart doesn't carry that I might buy is those YoBaby 3in1 meals... but i definitely can live without them.. And why are the checkout lanes so damn narrow? The cart hardly fits thru, let alone trying to get my stuff out with Eve in the cart..

What I've actually been looking for are these https://www.iateapie.net/reviews/archives/2006/03/morningstar_far_5.php ..

But it appears that they don't exist anymore anywhere.. Does anyone know of another brand of this type of thing and where I might find it?

  • They're discontinued. I remember posting about them last winter... the only reason I bought them is because they were 75% off as discontinued at Tops. Sorry to bring the bad news.

  • Yeah, I figured they were discontinued.. The girls on the other board I'm on buy something similar though.. Probably at a cool store like trader joes.

  • There are certain Wegmans that are crazy, and it also depends on when you go.  Since I usually only shop on weekday afternoons, it's not busy, and I actually really like grocery shopping!

Although I hear you about the checkout aisles being really narrow- they just widened all the checkout aisles at my Wegmans, and it's so much better now.  I used to be so paranoid about pinching Rosie's fingers when checking out.

  • I like Wegmans, don't love it.  BTW- My Weggies doesn't have the Corn POP thingy machine, I asked.  But about two weeks after I asked, they started carrying them, pre-made.  I bought a package, I didn't like them and neither did the kids.  I was so disappointed after hearing you ladies rave about them.  I also HATE that the isles are so narrow, espacially with the carts with the toddler seats on the back!  I always get in the handicap isle because of it.
  • I bought those veggie bites and they were nasty so you aren't missing out on anything!

I personally LOVE Wegmans!  But, like Olivia, I do my shopping on Monday mornings so it isn't very crowded and I know the store really well.

  • I am a Wegmans loyalist and will drive past Tops to get to Wegmans any day of the week.  Walmart is not even an option.  I was disappointed when the McKinley Wegmans discontinued use of the double basket (with big basket on the bottom) carts, but I was really glad that they kept about 30 outside the store. It is only frustrating when it is raining and I have to get a wet cart.  The infant seat fits in the top basket and Reed can sit next to it.  When Pierce is bigger they can sit side by side.  I guess they got a lot of complaints about the carts and I'm assuming the complaints came from people without kids.  They are a bit annoying to navigate because the end extends so far.  Other than that, I LOVE Wegmans.

  • eh, i don't shop at wegmans b/c

    -tops is closer

-i get $ off gas at tops

-even though wegmans prices are cheaper on some things, i spend more there b/c they have more variety and specialtiy items that tops doesn't

-and yes it is always chaos and i hate chaos at the grocery store. i actually go to the tops in the city of tonawanda over the closer one on delaware & sheridan b/c it's quieter.

  • I'm sorry to inform you that we can no longer be e-friends if you hate Wegmans.

We only have 1 in our area so it's always packed.  It's gotten even worse since Weis took over our locally owned "Giant" stores.  But Wegmans is the best in our area and the only place I will shop.  I can't deal with Walmart and Weis' and Price Chopper's prices are expensive.

  • I love Wegmans, but have become a reformed Tops shopper too. I like the gas bonus points (esp for DH's gas guzzler truck!) and I think they've come a long way w/ their produce and specialty items... although it still doesn't come close to Wegmans quality.

When I worked full time, I worked INSIDE tops (for the bank) and I would still go to Wegmans to shop! Now that I'm a SAHM, I shop at both- where ever I can get the best deals that week! (which lately has been Tops)

  • I LEFT Wegmans to work at Walmart.

Ya, got lots of disbelief and comments on that!

But in all seriousness, our grocery bill is less :)

  • DH hates Wegmans too- he'll go out of his way to go to Dash's but I go for convenience and for the generic stuff.  If I ever see those nuggets I'll let you know
  • I <3 Wegmans, but don't do all of my shopping there. They have many items I can't get elsewhere....Earths Best frozen waffles, the fruit cups that are in juice and not syrup, coco pops, to name a few. I prefer their produce too (when things aren't available at the farmer's market). I do our major shopping at Walmart, with stops to BJ's and Palmers Meats.

I really don't like Tops, their selection is horrid!

  • I love Wegman's.  Evan loves the CocoPops and they are a great lo-cal snack for me too :).  I can get things there that you can;t find anywhere else and I like everything of theirs generic (fot the most part).  Also, we have been buying organic meat, and I do not think that many other grocery stores carry it.
