Hypothetical Question (NPR)

Say you're dating a guy for ~5 years and he's a bad boy.  Hot, dangerous, can't seem to hold down a job and never really commits to wanting to spend his life with you.

Then he gets in a car accident and is incredible handicapped because of it.  He'll never be able to walk again and is working on his motor skills and talking.

 And he asks you to marry him. 

 What do you do?

    it would totalle depend on how you felt about him and if you really thought you could spend the rest of your life with him.

    Probably not because of the aforementioned detail:

    "...never really commits to wanting to spend his life with you."

    I would have moved on if this were the case.  I would assume that he didn't love me enough to commit and I would walk.

    I'd probably say no.  If he wasn't marriage material before (which he wouldn't have been for me), the accident wouldn't change my mind.

    I also would base it off of how the relationship was prior to the accident.  It may sound like he just wants someone to take care of him & I would really question his intentions/commitment.

    No way...not if he couldn't commit to me before.  Sounds like a marriage filled with unhappiness on both ends.

    I think I would turn him down after thinking about it for awhile mainly because he only wants to marry me because he needs a nursemaid.

    The scenario did happen to me but a tad different. Bad boy, yes. Broken neck, yes. Non-committal, YES! Asked me to marry him, yes.

     

    I said HELLZ NO!

    I would assume that the only reason he wants to marry me now is because he doesn't think he can do better.

    I like to think I would have gotten out of that relationship years earlier though.  Who wants to be in a dead end relationship for years?
