I'm new...and have a lot of questions!

Hello!

I came across this lovely website while searching the www, as my bf of 8 yrs and I just started TTC.  For the past 5 years we relied on the pull out method and timing to avoid a pregnancy, but would have embraced it, if it were to happen.  Now that we are getting close to 30 we decided to actually start trying...just this past couple of days.  I would like to believe that our previous methods were working and it has nothing to do with our ability to conceive.........thoughts?

So here I am wondering if I am 1-2 days pregnant...my mind going a million miles a second...looking for someone to talk to!  I shouldn't take a home pregnancy test until July 10th, but that's so far away!

  • The waiting is the worst! It took DH and I almost 2 years to concieve, we were actually waiting on a referal to an infertility clinic when it happened. I don't know if I would be concerned yet, the rhythm method can be effective if you know your own body well and have a predictable cycle. That being said if it does not happen this month ( and heres lots of T and P it will) I would wait another couple months and go see your doc, especially if you are pretty close to 30. Not sure where you are located but the waiting list for some of these clinics is pretty long, plus all the testing etc. My doc had done some preliminary tests before referring us on and I had to wait 4 months for an ultrasound, if I was pg I could have gotten one right away, go figure. My one big word of advice is to not tell too many people you are "trying". It is hard enough to go through it without people constantlly asking "so?". Even if they are just asking how you are, you may end up like me and read it as " So are you PG yet?".

Try not to get to obsessed with it yet, I know it is hard. The moment we decided to try I became a TTC freak, google was on overdrive for awhile. For now just enjoy the sex and have some fun with your hunny. Once the first tri hits you will be too tired to do much of anything. Oh and take your Vitamins of course lol.

Good Luck. Let me know what happens.

  • Thanks!  I have the TTC bug and am totally going to take your advice and cool it.  I have told my mom, sister and three of my closest gf's - that's it, no more!  Yes, google was smoking yesterday after I exhausted it's resources and I think it just filled my head with more questions.  What vitamins did you take?  I've been taking folic acid for a while now and I had bought materna, but my Doctor said not to start the materna until after I become pg...?  I'm also afraid to turn sex into work for my hunny.  I know he's going to enjoy it either way lol, but I don't want him to think it's "different" sex because we are trying.  That must have been hard waiting so long for a simple ultrasound....thank the Lord you didn't have to end up going through the fertility treatments.  Congratulations on the birth of your little girl.....I voted for her on FB for the cloth diapers...she's adorable :)
  • I can't speak from personal experience ( I used an IUD) but a friend of mine used the pull out method for 6 YEARS! And then the first time they didn't......they got pregnant. So if you are both healthy and firtile......there is not reason that you wouldn't be prego.

I can relate to the idea of having to wait to find out. I used an IUD for 10 years.....and the day I had it out I knew I was preggo. And I tried right away taking the test. But of course it came back negative. I waited a week and tried again and TAH DAH.....positive. It is quite possibly the hardest thing to do. But wait.....I waisted some good money on test....silly really.

Good luck and I hope you have positive results!

  • Thanks for the well wishes!!

Here's a little update....I was supposed to get my period yesterday....and today, still nothing!

I took a test on Saturday (earliest at home test day) and it was negative :( and then when I woke up today sans period I took another.  Jumpin the gun?  Maybe, but it's so hard not knowing!

  • What did the test today say?
  • It was also negative and still no period today!  Im thinking blood test? or do I wait until I get a positive at home test?Tongue Tied

  • I wouldn't do a blood test yet.

    Do you chart at all?

  • Hi,

My Fianc? and I relied on the same method as you. There was never an issue, and then one day I went to the doctor's thinking I had a UTI and I found out I was pregnant! This happened the day after my fianc? left for a week to visit his parents (great timing). We had also agreed that if we conceived accidentally, that we were ready to embrace it and we were prepared.

Let me just say you are never quite prepared enough!

I would always monitor my periods very closely just to be sure, but this was the one time that it was totally unexpected! Nevertheless, we are both very happy about this outcome. When I went to the doctor, I was too far away to even think of a pregnancy test or missed period, but my urine sample confirmed my pregnancy hormones.

I think just relaxation and no stress is the best way to go, these things usually happen when you aren't looking.

    Good luck!
