Hi Bumpies. I am usually over on the 0-3 board, but I'm requesting help for an IRL friend. She recently reunited with an old long distance flame and, poof, in one month she will be a stepmom to 2 kids she's never met. The SD is 11 and the SS is 7. She has zero experience with kids (my DS is the 1st baby she's ever held). Since my kiddo isn't a "kid" yet, I'm not much help.
Could you give me some advice to relay to her, please? TIA
1. How should she get to know the kids? 1 on 1, with the dad present??
2. How can she find out what elementary school kids are interested in?
3. Are there any good resources for step parents?
I told her about TB and I'm buying her a subscription to Parenting: School Years
Thanks much!
Tell her to read some books. I found a TON of good info in the Happy Stepmother and Stepmonster and there are a lot of good blogs too. This board is great for debate, but I don't find much as far as support goes.
