*sandra* re: ring sling

This is where I got the sling I was using on Saturday

https://www.sleepingbaby.net/

mine is just the "basic fabric sling" in european linen.  If you become a FB fan she often lists promo codes for free shipping or 10% off.

the site also has lots of good info for proper carrying techniques, sizing, etc.

Re: *sandra* re: ring sling

  • thank you!  i loved that it looks SO much easier to put on and take off than a wrap, and jack looked so comfy and cozy in it!  i was checking out all the different carrying techniques - very cool.  i'm sold, we'll definitely try these! Smile

  • hrm, sorry, one more question - my back hurts when i wear a messenger bag (across my body) for too long.  has that ever happened to you, either with a messenger bag or with a ring sling?

i'm wondering if something symmetrical might be easier on my back, or if the weight is distributed such that the ring sling is still comfortable for someone who tends to have back issues Sad

Sandra, sorry to butt in but i wanted to say that i had trouble with ring slings.  i think my shoulders are too narrow for them.  i went to a babywearing mtg here and they said i was wearing it right so that wasn't the problem. i think a SSC is much better for my frame.

honestly unless you find a super great deal i'd wait until baby arrives to get a baby carrier. you never know what you (or LO) will like until you try it out

  • Sorry to butt in too...

I wish I had waited until we had Elyse to try out the carriers.  While I was pregnant I bought a ring sling and a Bjorn.  Elyse HATED the ring sling and the Bjorn really hurts my back.

I'm really hoping my next babe is a snuggler, so I'm going to hang onto the ring sling because the idea of it is so easy.

  • thanks for the advice, all of you!  no need to apologize for butting in - i really appreciate it Smile  I will wait...

it's weird, i feel so behind, but then when i look at the list of stuff that you really *need* before the baby arrives, it's not actually that long.  but i'm guessing i won't have time to research later, so i should have a few options picked out ahead of time, then see how it goes!

    thanks!

  • yeah, I would wait to see what you and baby like.  I guess babies probably like or don't like carried, but it can't hurt to start right away so maybe have one option ready?

I put Jack in the moby the first day home from the hospital.  It's nice, but definitely not something that is easy to take out of the house so I used the pouch carrier (with lots of caution and he was always pretty big) and then the ring sling as soon as I got it.

Birth and Beyond in Madison Park sells Sakura Bloom Ring Slings (and other carriers).

To answer your question - I don't find it that uncomfortable, but wouldn't wear it all day.  A full day of shopping (with him in and out of it) is even too much.  But I love it for quick trips (grocery, walk to GTG, an outing where I know I will sitting down a little, etc).  He is just now big enough to carry normally in an ergo so that will probably be my go to.

But, as you know I'm bigger framed so that all might make a difference  too.
