Those that use double strollers...

What kind do you have?  Do you like it?  I'm wondering if I should be looking at side by side ones or not.  I'm worried about having a problem getting through doorways with the side by side ones.  Has that been a problem for you?  I was looking at the Chicco Cortina Together stroller and the new Britax B-Ready stroller.  I worry that the B-Ready would make one child feel kinda left out as the 2nd seat is behind and below the front seat, but it looks so much more compact than the other double strollers I've seen.  Thanks for any input you can give!  Talking to moms that actually use a double stroller regularly will help a ton.

  • I just bought the gracco side by side and love it, it fits through all doorways and haven't had any problems. It's durable too, I have put that thing through hell so far:)

If you want one for carseat I have the duo glider by gracco and love that one too.

  • I have the Baby Trends Expedition Double Jogging Stroller (https://www.babytrend.com/joggers_double/DJ96052.html) and I LOVE it. It is so easy to maneuver, has lots of under seat storgage, and folds/unfolds easily. I personally recommend a side-by-side stroller. While there have been times that I've had problems squeezing through doors or navigating the aisles of cramped stores, C&L really like being able to see each other, touch each other, share toys, etc. in the side-by-side.

  • Thanks so much!  Am I going to need 2 different double strollers then?  One for when baby is in the car seat and then another for when he/she is older or do the double jogging strollers fit car seats?

I have 2 for that very reason. I didn't go the jogging stroller route because I wanted light, easy and I wanted it to fit through the doors. The jogging stroller seemed so bulky to me at BRU, I had my heart set on one and then I got there and changed my mind quick.

  • Love my baby jogger city mini. Haven't met a door I couldn't get through yet, although if you live in an area with a lot of older buildings you might.

Only complaint is the basket underneath is hard to get at when kiddos are actually in the stroller & I have yet to figure out how to use the strap that is meant to keep it in the fold position.

  • I recommend going and trying different strollers out.  Most moms I know have side by sides and I found them much easier to maneuver.  I just got the Bumbleride Indie twin and it fits my car seat (Chicco).

    Good luck!

    ETA:  I think I missed your announcement....Congrats!

  • I have bought a few and sold a couple double strollers til I found what works the best. For me, it's the City Mini. I wanted one that I could bring to the zoo, go for walks, and not break my back getting it in and out of my car. Plus the City Mini does have a carseat adaptor for the Little One. It's very convenient. If you have room to store more than one, or like to have a jogging and lightweight then you could go that route, but if you like one all around I recommend this.

The other ones I had was the City Classic by baby jogger, and a lightweight sit and stand by joovy.

  • I have the BOB duallie...I love it.  It is long from front to back, but I have only found one place where I couldn't fit through the door.  It is light, easy to open and close, etc.  SUPER easy to drive with one hand.  It practically walks itself.

The only downfall is that it is expensive.  The carseat adapter is extra and it is $$$.  I didn't bother with the carseat adapter.  I bought a snuzzler padded thing to put in the stroller and just stuck her in that.  She was in it at 4 days old.

It doesn't have a million places to store things but that works for me.  It has a pouch underneath, a pocket on the back of each seat, and little pockets beside each baby.

The sunshades are wicked...have never had an issue with sun in the eyes.

Reed was 13 months old when Penny was born.

  • My recommendation is to wait until you're closer to delivery to determine what will work best for you based on your older child's personality.

Mine are 17 months apart.  We used the double maybe 5 times.  Thank GOD I got it used off ebay and didn't pay retail for it.

In the beginning I kept the toddler in the single and wore the baby so I'd have both hands free to chase him around.

Once the baby was too big to wear the toddler was NOT interested in the stroller and I spent most of my time getting him in and out.   It was a pain.

We switched to a sit and stand and never touched our double again.  When they were older we found ourselves using the wagon more for things like the zoo and long walks so they could both get out on their own easier.

The newer sit and stands have removable 2nd seats and hands down I'd recommend a tandem double with a removable 2nd seat as a mom of 2u2.

I recommend posting on the 2u2 board for more feedback from Moms with kids spaced similarly to yours.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.

Thanks!  I posted an announcement when I was freaking out with the BFP but DD it as I wasn't ready for the news to be left out there.  :)

  • Thanks for the recommendations!  Good idea to post on the 2u2 board.  I need to start visiting that board...  I definitely am not planning on buying very soon, but I wanted to start looking at the different options.  I hated wearing Dylan (and so did he), so I don't forsee wearing this one either, but that could always change.

I didn't wear my Dylan that much either but I promise you that with a toddler on the move you may just find that having the baby strapped to you makes life a whole lot easier.

It sucks when your toddler is running off in one direction and your baby is stuck in an infant carrier or stroller.  It's not like you can leave the baby alone or go too far but it's also not an option to let the toddler run nilly-willy.

If Dylan's a good stroller rider you'll be set for a while but if he's a stoller hater you may find that wearing is the safest option for all involved.

We have the Bumbleride Indie twin and I really like it, although we haven't used it much yet.  DD hates her car seat, so I have been wearing her more and taking DS out in his single stroller.  It is also bulky and stored in our basement, so it is hard for me to get it out alone with 2 kids - so we have mostly used it when DH is home too.  But once she gets bigger, I will probably have them both in the double.  I really like the stroller itself.  I haven't had a problem with doors yet - and I have gotten into the coffee shops that are near my house.  I foresee that I might need to get a lightweight umbrella type stroller to bring to the mall, etc, but I really like the one we have for neighborhood walks/jogs (not that I have tried that yet, but you can use it for that!).  Good luck deciding - we went to a local store and tried out a bunch with DS.

I have a Phil and Ted's sport and love it!  It's essentially the same size as a single stroller which means you can go anywhere and it drives beautifully.  You can also use it with an infant seat (which I of course, haven't done).  And when you don't need a double stroller, you can use it as a single!

I do have a side by side stroller (Combi) that I use for quick trips where size isn't an issue (like Target or the grocery store) because it's super easy to fold and unfold.  However, the baskets aren't that great and once and a while DDs decide to bug each other, pull hair, etc.  Also, you can't use a car seat with the Combi.  Most standard side by side doubles will fit through any doorway that is handicap accessible, but it can still be a pain.

ETA:  Neither of my DD seem to mind sitting in the "back" seat of the Phil and Ted's.  In fact, they seem to like putting their feet up on the stroller frame and just chilling.

We just bought the Baby Jogger City Mini Double.....I LOVE it :)

It was worth every penny!! Its drives so smoothly and it folds up super easily.

It is very light and I have no problem lifting it up and into my SUV by myself.

One thing to think about is that you need to be able to fold and lift it up by yourself.

We looked at a couple other ones that were a bit heavier and I could barely lift it up and into the car by myself......I think a lot of people "test" the strollers out in the stores by lifting them......but don't forget to try to get it in your car!

The City Mini is a bit more on the expensive side and all of the accessories are extra, but for us, it was definitely worth it!

I really wanted a side by side.......these are things you definitely want to think about!

  • We have the zooper tango side by side and I really love it. I have never had a problem fitting in doorways. It opens and folds up soooooooo easily. https://www.strollerdepot.com/items/zooper-tango-stroller/?gclid=CNiZwPSOxqICFYM65Qodtxhy6Q

We do also have a graco duo glider that's a tandem. We don't use that as often but wanted to have a tandem stroller as well.
