(The backstory, if you missed it: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/38897497.aspx )
So, after my fiasco yesterday, another resident from my OB's practice called me this morning. He also agreed that I definitely should not be testing negative on a hpt with a beta above 20, much less with a beta of 268. He also said it was probably a problem at the lab and called in for me to have more lab work this morning.
I was driving home from that blood draw when my OB called. (He was out of the office yesterday). He said that he had their lab re-run my blood sample from yesterday, and that my betas are actually 12.5!!!!! I am so relieved and so happy. It sucks I had to go through another blood draw this morning, but at least I finally got accurate results from a doctor who takes me seriously.
I also told my doctor how rudely I was treated yesterday by his nurse, and he said he will have their head office administrator call me to discuss this. My doctor sounded so genuinely concerned and apologized profusely, even before I told him I was considering leaving his practice because of this. He also said he personally will call me this afternoon to give me the lab results from this morning, instead of his nurse.
Whew, what a roller-coaster these past 24 hours have been. I'm so relieved to finally have some answers. Thank you all again for the support yesterday.
Re: UPDATE: So upset again
Im glad that that 1) the Dr spoke with you personally to clear it up and that your betas are at 12.5!
2) throat punch the nurse
(im into throat punching today)

My doctor actually just called me again with the results from this morning's blood draw... 10.2! He apologized several more times and said he will do anything he can to make up for this situation, even if it is him recommending another OB to me. I thought that was so nice.
He does want me to come back one more time next week -- to the hospital lab, not his (which I think is awesome) -- to make sure my betas are down to 0, but I can live with that. He also gave me his personal cell phone number and said I can call if I need anything, which I really appreciated. If nothing else, my doctor certainly gets a gold star for his handling of this whole situation!
