Should I switch to 3+ month nipples already?

Is this an exact date sort of thing or are there signs I should look for? She started daycare yesterday (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah) so she's getting a lot more bottles then she usually does. The bottles still have the slow flow nipple but I did buy the 3+ month ones too - should I go ahead and switch?

  • If you are still bfing you may not want to change at all - that way she won't be expecting more, faster all the time.  She will let you know if she needs to switch to the variable flow, she will start getting frustrated when she is eating.

  • Huh. I haven't switched, I didn't even think about it.  He takes a bottle just the same as he always has, doesn't seem frustrated or anything.   I think I agree w/ Karey, my boobs aren't going to get new nipples, no need for the bottle to unless he's having issues w/ them.

  • I wouldn't switch if you are still BFing.  I don't think I switched until I transitioned to 100% formula.
  • I would only if she's getting frustrated with the bottle and if you aren't breastfeeding anymore.  If you're still breastfeeding, you want her to stay on the slow flow nipples.
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

  • Thanks ladies- I'm still breastfeeding her and pumping for her milk at daycare (no formula needed yet) so I'm glad I asked. She's not getting frustrated so I will keep the same nipples on there as long as I am breastfeeding her.
  • I just use a mix of 1s and 2s.  Usually whatever is clean.  Like my kid will really care!
  • I switched kind of early, but I had a fast let down, so he was used to a quicker flow. I talked to my doctor and she actually suggested it. Every baby is different though.  :o)

Ditto if you have fast letdown or oversupply issues,.

  • Evan drinks way too fast and has reflux, so we are keeping the slow flow nipples on as long as possible.
