1st Trimester

1st trimester ladies... how many noticed implantation bleeding?

Hi everyone,

I'm not in my first trimester yet... I'm in the 2ww, and have never been pregnant before.  Right now is right around the time implantation should occur if I managed to conceive.  I'm curious... trying to get a general, unscientific idea of how many now-pregnant women noticed implantation bleeding.  I would guess that the ladies on the bump (or at least on the TTC board, and I bet most of the people on the 1st trimester board migrated from the TTC board) would be most likely to notice bleeding if it occurred. Since most of you actively tried to get pregnant, you're probably very aware of every little change.  I'm just wondering what to expect... if I don't notice any bleeding around this time (and am looking carefully) should I expect that I was not successful in my TTC efforts?  What were your experiences?

  • I didnt have implantation bleeding and I don't know anyone that did.

  • From what I've heard, implantation bleeding is rare.  I had nothing. I had dull mild cramping, but not until after I got a BFP at 4w1d. Good luck.

  • The general concensus you are going to get here, with this question, is that it is not common.

I have had it in 3 out of 4 pregnancies. :)

2nd pregnancy was dark brownish and dark red mix...kinda pastey like.

3rd pregnancy was very red, light spotting that lasted about a day and a half.

4th pregnancy was very scant, bright red drops when I wiped.  No similarities what so ever so there is not much to gain by going off of possible implantation bleeding.  Just because you don't have it doesn't mean you aren't pregnant.  HTH :)

  • I did not experience implantation bleeding for either of my pregnancies.  My brother's girlfriend did though (thats when I told her to take a HPT).  It isn't incredibly common though.

Don't discount pregnancy if you didn't experience bleeding....just wait til you expect AF and take a test!

  • Nope, not with any of my 3 pregnancies.  I was looking for it with #2 and #3.
  • Personally, I did not.

Fertility Friend did a study and found that around 20-30% of pregnant women experienced some sort of spotting during their LP before they found out they were pregnant.  Not all that rare for pregnant women.

Fertility Friend also did a study and found that around 15-20% of ladies who are trying to get pregnant experienced spotting during their LP.  That includes ladies who ended up being pregnant, and those that did not.

For someone trying to conceive, implantation bleeding is pretty rare.  Based on the statistics above (and if you take into the consideration that you have a 20% chance of getting pregnant every cycle), about 4-6 out of 100 ladies trying to get pregnant will experience IB in a given cycle.  HTH, and GL!

  • Thanks.  I thought I would ask on here to get some first-hand experiences, but then I googled and found a couple sites that said it is rare.  One person on another site said something like, "from the way people talk, you'd think everyone gets it, when really, most women don't."  I think it is true that many of the articles about all this make it seem as if it is a common sign, and the way people talk on the 'trying to get pregnant' board, one would think it's a common thing.  It's good to know that I don't need to give this much thought or worry about it.
  • I didn't have it with either of my pregnancies. I did have achy cramps that felt like my uterus was almost bruised.

    Implantation bleeding is rare.

  • mchupie - thanks, those are interesting statistics.

This website can be really helpful, but honestly I think it's made me way more obsessive than I would have been had I not started reading it!  I get anxious and try to interpret every little thing now. :-)

  • I am one of the rare ones who did have implantation bleeding about 2 days after I ovulated. It was very light and bright red. We had been TTC so I had calculated everything and when I noticed this, I was pretty sure we were pregnant. Good luck and best wishes!

  • Out of 6 pregnancies of which we've had 2 live births I had implantation bleeding a couple of times.  This time it happened about 4w 3d and then again a day later where it was brown.  I had bleeding again at 6w and 7w but none since.  Something I have found though for those that didn't get implantation bleeding, sometimes you will get a brownish dishcharge at 6w or 7w which is leftoever IB or the baby burrowing deeper.

If you are sure of your ovulation date, that was probably mid-cycle spotting, not implantation bleeding.  Implantation doesn't occur until 6+ dpo.

If you aren't sure of your ovulation date (through BBT charting), you probably ovulated earlier than you thought :)

If it was only 2 days after you ovulated, i'm sure it was ovulation spotting which does happen albeit, not often. Implantation does not occur that early. Sounds like a coincidence unless it was really later in your cycle and you thought it was 2 days.

OP please don't get your hopes up and discount it one way or another. The only way to know is to test. Good luck!

  • I had implantation bleeding with this pregnancy but not with my DD. It was just a tiny bit the day before I got my BFP.
  • Nope, no spotting.

  • I didn't have any until I was 6 weeks along and then it was from the placenta implanting, not the embryo. Good luck.

  • It gets even trickier too because it seems like I have had implantation bleeding in 4 out of 7 pregnancies but more than likely it was just my body warning me of an impending miscarriage. I don't know if the statistics distinguish between IB and bleeding related to miscarriage (because it sometimes took a few weeks for my body to recognize what was going on) so it would seem like isolated spotting but in actuality it was not.

  • I am not sure what I experienced was implantation bleeding or not, but after I got our BFP the next day a had light brown spotting just that day.

  • I did. I thought I had started my period because I had some brown spotting on Tuesday and Wednesday of that week, but then AF never came, so Saturday I took a test and it was +. So, it would not have been until 12 or 13 DPO that I had the spotting.

  • I did! I may not be a lot of help though because I wasn't charting. I hadn't had a period in months, then had very little, dark bleeding (like the end of a period) for 2 days. Two wks later I had a blood test and it was positive!

  • I didn't have any implantation bleeding my first 3 pregnancies.  I can't remember if I did for the 4th one so I think no.  I did have it for the 5th one and this one I had some spotting right when I thought I was getting AF.  It really wasn't AF, because I took a test a few days later after that spotting (it was about 5 days later actually) and it turned out I was positively pregnant.  So I am not sure if it was "implantation" or just old blood...

I don't know if that helps but it is not necessary to have implantation bleeding.  Not having it doesn't mean that you are not pregnant like others have said.

  • I didn't with either pregnancy.  Just cramping that was dull/achy.  Slight increase in CM after, but it was watery.  The cramping has continued since then, but still no blood.
  • I had the tiniest amount of blood on the tissue when I went to the bathroom about 3 days before my period was due.  I was so bummed, because that's usually the first sign that my period is coming.  Then... no period.  So, I guess I experienced implantation bleeding, but it wasn't anything really.  I probably would've missed it had I not been looking for AF to start.

  • No bleeding, but very, very, very crampy.

    Good luck!

  • I had implantation bleeding at 10 DPO that lasted until 11 DPO.  It was just light pink spotting which I had never had before a period before, but I felt like it was my period coming.  I had taken a test the morning of 10DPO and it was negative and then when I started to spot that night I felt sure it was my period starting.  When it stopped by 12 DPO I took another test and got my BFP.

  • YES! I had light spotting for 4 days that was after I had midcycle spotting but too early to be the beginning of my period which never came. The week after that I started getting really gassy and then tested positive.

  • No bleeding or spotting at all.  I did get cramps but not until AF was over 1 week late.
  • I didn't have it at all.

  • I had spotting on the 11th DPO through the 13th DPO. Implantation bleeding is supposed to only last two days from my research so I'm not absolutely positive it was implantation bleeding..but I believe it was! It is what prompted me to take the test. I had no cramping during this time. But as PP have mentioned, everyone is different!

  • I didn't have implantation bleeding.
  • nope, none, with any of my pregnancies.
  • i dont know if it was implantation or what, but yes, i spotted 3-4 days before missed period just as i normally would if no BFP and then i spotted in weeks 5-6 just when wiping.  it was all normal, and went away, and all is (knock on wood) a-ok.
  • I didn't have any bleeding.  Of course, that was how I realized I was pregnant not having any period. (-;  I'd never heard of it until I started reading the boards.

I had LOADS of cramping though.  After the 2nd straight week of it, I started to get suspicious.  My husband knew I was preggo before I did.
