So DH just called from the fertility clinic & said he just can't do it. F'ing awesome.

In his defense he said there's no privacy & I could here like 5 girls standing outside his door talking. But really?

I told he better find a way to do it before he leaves there. I'm such a mean wife.

My DH is the same way. He literally cannot produce a sample on his own, even when we are in our house. So we have to use a collection condom and have sex - but it works every time!

I would say that I feel sorry for our DH's, but this is the only thing they have to do on this entire journy - so I don't.

I kindly explained to him before he went that the next step was a very invasive & not inexpensive x-ray with dye in my uterus. Apparently that didn't help.

Don't boys train themselves to do this quietly & all the time at an early age?

My Dh HATED producing at the clinic.

For SA, he was able to produce at home, and one of us would bring in the jar in a sock which we kept in our waistband. As long as it was less than 45 mins. it was all good.

I have to say (maybe slightly flameworthy)...I am of the opinion that although many female fertility tests are more invasive....I think the SA isn't much easier, kwim? One is physically invasive, but the other is psychologically invasive.

If my doctor gave me the option of having an hsg or locking myself in an exam room (where I can hear people in the hallway), pulling down my pants, and getting myself off all the way to orgasm .... I might choose the hsg. The thought of doing the other gives me the MAJOR willies.

Oops, sorry about the post title! I do agree, but it's also like....okay, this has all fallen on me & will continue to physically fall on me throughout testing & a future pg. This is really the only thing he'll be subjected to. But yeah, I'm sure it's not all that easy.

SA's are very hard for the boys. To be fair, would you be able to preform on cue in a sterile room by a window with people walking by?

Couldn't your DH do the sample at home and take it in, you usually get better numbers on those types then the ones in the sterile rooms anyway...

I updated above, but he got it done. Our instructions specifically said it must be done in the clinic. Hopefully this is the only time he'll have to do it.

This exactly, I get that its difficult, but we have to anty up our bits and pieces for every doc in the office, he can do this!!

Poor thing - I used to have no sympathy for dh in this area and then I had to give a urine sample before my HSG and I had just gone to the bathroom and I was in the bathroom in my little backless robe doing shots of water out of the bathroom sink and about to cry. If it doesn't work out today, let him try at home. If not they can give you a special condom to use...I'm sure he's not the first guy to choke.
