Grrrr... Flights to France

So thanks to your wisdom, we're trying to book a trip to the S. of France now while tickets are cheap, to be taken when LO is a few months old.

Not a single site will let us book our tickets w/o LO's name... even though he/she won't have a separate seat.  Ummm, sorry, I'm not even sure what sex our baby is, much less his/her name!

This may end up costing us our vacation if ticket prices rise at all in the next 6-8 weeks before baby arrives.  :(

  • Make up a name, it doesnt really matter, you can call in later and change it.

  • Why do you have to say anything about a baby at all?  When we did a lap child, we just called a few weeks before the flight and said "we have a lap child" and they said "ok".  That was it.

  • I had this same experience when I was pg & booking a flight, and we too didn?t want to miss out on any of the discounted fares available.  I rang the airline that we were looking at purchasing tickets with, explained the situation and they said that if you are making a booking and your infant has not been born yet, do not add the infant to your booking. Just book your flight for you & DH and when your baby is born call your airline to add their name to the booking. This is presuming that you are not wanting a seat & you are just booking a lap infant   One domestic flight we once caught also I noticed a couple of days before flying that our son wasn?t listed on our e-mail ticket confirmation. So I called the airline and they added him on & the ticketing agent said it was no problems because we weren?t actually booking a seat for him so it was just a matter of his details on their records.   I would just call the airline that you are looking at travelling with just to 100% confirm it with them though as I would presume they are all the same. Good luck J

  • Thanks, ladies.  I believe the issue is that these are international flights, so they ask for baby's name and make a big deal on the their websites that names need to match passports exactly.  I suppose I can still call... just a little intimidated calling Air France or Icelandic Air.  :)  I'll try it today, thanks!

  • I have never had to put in my child's name under 2. I assume it'll be a lap child? Or are you buying the child a seat?

Ours were international too - Seattle to Australia. We flew with Alaska Ailines & Qantas airlines to get there and both airlines were good about it. They also encouraged us to call them once the baby was born to put their name on their records so that we could also request a bassinet for the flight also (it was heaven he slept so wel in this!)

Fingers crossed Air France are just as helpful!

  • Don't forget to ask for the bulkhead seat if you can when traveling internationally - they usually have bassinets built in on international flights.  I know there were those on my Delta flight last week from Seattle to Amsterdam. You can check to see if they have them here: https://www.seatguru.com/ or ask the airline.

Hmmm... it's Air France but I worked with Delta as I have status with them.  They put me us one seat behind the bulkhead, and said they requested a bassinet for both legs.  I'll call them back tomorrow and ask whether the bulkhead would work better.  Thanks for the tip!!!
