We have both - one upstairs in our loft and one downstairs in our family room. I got the exersaucer for free (yay!) and bought the jumperoo for $30 at a garage sale. I know that OUAC has them for about $45.
He seems to like each for different reasons. He's really interested in all of the things on the exersaucer and seems to like to try to figure them out. The jumperoo he's learning to jump in, which he also thinks is tons of fun. One thing on the jumperoo - I read somewhere that it can sometimes be bad when they start to walk because they'll want to jump instead. no idea if that is true or not - regardless he's not in either for long periods of time anyways.
ETA: I don't think that you need both, but we actually love having something like that on each floor. He's becoming so independent and doesn't want to be held all the time and gets tired quickly of just laying on the floor. This gives him somewhere to be "up" on both floors so we don't have to carry it up/down.
We have both. I bought them both from my cousin, so I only spent like $40 for both. She liked both of them. The exersaucer has lasted longer though. She was able to use it before the jumperoo and we still occasionally use it if we need to do something outside or in the garage and need to keep her confined.
We only had an exersaucer and Ellie loved it. Actually, she still does. We have it out right now for when babies come to visit and she always plays with it. lol. Ours was bouncy, so we didn't get a jumperoo. Anyway, I wouldn't pay more than $30ish for one used. I've seen them at garage sales for $5 and $10!

We only had a jumperoo. I think if we would have had the space we could have used both, but definitely not necessary to have both.
If buying used I think the rule of thumb is about 50% of new IF it's in good condition.
We didn't have either and survived. :-)
We do have a cheap doorway jumper (the Johnny Jump Up) and Paige loved it. I don't think she'd use it now since she can walk.
We only had a jumperoo. He used it for such a short period of time that I wouldn't have bought one for us, but my ILs bought it for him.
I like the idea of a jumperoo instead of just an exersaucer. The jumperoo has the toys to play with and lets the babies bounce.
