I don't think there's any reason why you can't, as long as it's not a ton of water.. I think some dr's even recommend giving babies some water during the hot summer days
i've put water in DS' sippy cup so he gets a bit out when he chews the nub but that's pretty much it
DD loves to play with her sippy cup, she chews on the top, but most of the water goes down the front of her shirt. Ped said that it's good to introduce water now so she gets used to the taste, and to keep hydrated in the hot summer. I fill her sippy cup with water every day, and maybe a quarter of it is gone by evening, and most of that like I said goes down her shirt.

It's very hot here (95-100 everyday) and if we are outside or in and out of the heat all day I will give her some water. I give it to her in a sippy cup and sometimes in a bottle, but the best way to give her water is to take a straw and kind of pour it into her mouth. She seems to like the water, but she doesn't like it in a bottle and she doesn't get much from the sippy cup yet.
We give her a sippy cup of water. But we've been giving her a little bit here and there since 4 months since she was dealing sith constipation.

Our pedi said to give water as well, he said about 4 oz. a day, especially if they've been outside in the hot weather. We give it to him at his 2 meals to wash down the cereal in a sippy. He loves it and now even drinks a few sips from our glasses. He is just now starting to get the hang of a sippy so at the end of the day, he's had maybe an ounce total.
