Autopsy update (a little annoyed)

Immediately after posting my message below, I sucked it up and decided to call my doctor. Ironically she picked up the phone and when I asked her if she got the results yet, she said that she got them today and then asked if I wanted a copy of it. At first, I didn't really feel like I wanted a copy, so I proceeded to ask her for the diagnosis. That's when she said, well there's really no diagnosis, they just described the anomalies. At that point, I got a little annoyed because I thought they were going to figure out WTH it was?!

Ugh, so then I asked her if she could mail me a copy of the results, since it didn't seem like she was going to go over it with me on the phone. Then, she responds by telling me to come by the office to pick it up bc it's several pages.

Please someone tell me that I'm overreacting? I really hope she doesn't think I'm a PITA! DH and I really had a great experience with her so far and I'd hate to switch doctors again.

  • WOW! You are not overreacting. My OB sat with me for awhile and went over our autopsy results. She is right when she says it does not determine a cause of death, but depending on what it says, she might be able to tell you the cause of death. I would call back tomorrow and schedule an appointment with her. I wouldn't have wanted to read the report without a doctor there to ask questions to.  I am so sorry you got that reaction from the OB.

  • Well, doctor's offices are known for that kind of crap. Hopefully the office isn't far...Does she expect you to interpret the results yourself? I'd be a little upset by the fact that she didn't say "Come see me so we can review it." You're supposed to pick it up and then figure it out?

Anyway -- there is no such thing as overreacting when you've lost a baby.

This! I can't believe she wouldn't mail them to you! And NO, I don't think you're overreacting especially when you want explanations and answers.

This exactly! OK - When I go pick it up, I am going to ask if she can go over it with me. She might have assumed that I would be able to interpret it because I am a pharmacist, but even so ... she is the OB and I want to hear it from her.

This. Ask her flat out what all of this means. My doc called me as soon as she got the results and was able to look them over. We got no answers with ours. I hope you can find some answers!!

  • Call and make an appointment to go over it in person.  Aidan's autopsy didn't tell us why, but I had it done in case the drs might be able to learn something.

I would schedule an appt to go over the results.  Please keep in mind it IS Monday and Drs offices are usually JAMMED PACKED with weekend emergiencies that were not too serious for the weekend ER but the most important thing to ever happen someone come monday morning.

She prolly just had a really hard day I would give her another shot.

That being said...you were not overreacting, When I worked @ my Drs office and someone wanted copies of something we e-mailed it or faxed it, but if they didnt have acces to e-mail or a fax, then we would ask for them to come in or snail mail it as a last resort

  • I would go in person and ensure that someone goes over them with you thoroughly. Especially if they're already saying that it's long. There are probably so many medical terms in there that it would be a like reading Greek to someone who's untrained.
