Parenting after a Loss

Would you go to the doctor for this? (me, not LO)

So here's the deal.  When I had Logan, I weighed too much.  I weighed in at 213.5 and I am 5'9".  I made a resolution to eat better, eat less portion-wise, and exercise.  I am breastfeeding, too.

Well the weight came off.  And then some.  When I got pg with him, I was 176 (still WAY too much).  So I was really excited that my efforts were paying off.

A couple months ago, I got down to about 135, and I thought that was perfect.  But I keep losing.  I don't eat horribly, but I have started adding some "treats" back into my diet-the ice cream, more fast food, etc.

Fast forward to this morning.  I just stepped on the scale, and I am 121.  WHAT?!  I am really not trying to lose more weight, and now I am worried there is something wrong.  But, of course, I am worried that I am overreacting.

Would you go to the doctor if you were me?

On a side note, Logan is doing FANTASTICALLY with his weight, and he is getting all the nutrients that he needs from my BM.

  • I would call.....121 is pretty small for someone who is 5'9"

  • Yeah I'd call too- that is a lot of weight to loose that quickly and to keep loosing.... 121 is probably underweight for your height.

  • I'd call, it can't hurt to get checked out.
  • i would call too.  that seems like alot of weight to drop without trying too hard (the 135 to 121).  can't hurt to see what the dr has to say.
  • I'd call just to make sure things were okay.

  • That is an amazing weight loss! And go you for keeping Logan, happy and healthy on BM for so long.

I would call the doctor. Just to make sure everything is OK. I was having similar issues a couple of years ago and it can be scary when it just keeps coming off like that. at 5' 9, 121 is really low. I would make an appointment for peace of mind and also have them check your thyroid maybe? Hope everything is OK!

  • hmmm, I'm jealous of your problem! but seriously, 121 is quite tiny for someone 5'9". I was down to 121 years ago and am only 5'6" and everyone was telling me I was too thin (although I think I looked great, but I'm shorter than you!). If you're eating more & still losing it can't hurt to call your doc & ask their opinion, they'll probably do bloodwork just to check. I hope all is well & you're just needing to pig out a little more! Stick out tongue
  • It wouldn't hurt to get checked. I will say I lost weight like that for about 6 months prior to my wedding without trying. I was a little worried but it was just stress. Side note-there was one other time I lost like that and it was from my BCP-i didn't know that could happen, but once I switched I was ok. GL

  • I agree with PP that there is no harm in just getting it checked.  I am about the same weight but am 5'6", but even at that I thought about mentioning it at my physical as I don't seem to gain weight regardless of my diet (which isn't always stellar).  Keep us posted!

  • Well, i'm jealous of your problem, but I'm 5'8 and need to loose a bit of weight yet. Are you feeling ok? If it were me, I'd probably ditch the efforts all together and see what that does for you. BFing takes alot of nutrients away from mom, so your trying to eat healthy, while good, may be what you'd consider eating healthy when you're not BFing. BFing burns calories and the baby takes nutrients too. Not that I'm telling you anything you don't know. I'm guessing Logan is also moving around alot now, and your chasing him is burning even more calories;  and it's summer, which tends to make people eat less anyways.

I hate dr.s, so before I'd go to a dr, I'd try adding to my diet and see if I gain. If I was still loosing then I'd call. But, don't take my advice if you don't want to! Like I said, I avoid dr.s at all costs!

  • I would call and have them check your thyroid....if it is low you can have rapid weight loss. Its worth getting it checked out.

  • I know im late but yes I would get it checked out. Unexplained weight loss is always a reason to go in, especially if you are eating regularly. It may be nothing.
