  • :::Lurker butting in:::   I am assuming you are going to be taking Parlodel for high prolactin levels.  If this is the case, it is nice to see another person with this issue also.  I have my results appointment with the endocrinologist this coming Thursday and I am not pregnant.  Just wanted to wish you luck with your journey.

By the way, if high prolactin is your issue did you have a MRI?  Do you have a microadenoma(pituitary tumor) or is the prolactin level just high.  Thank you.

I don't have any answers to your question.  But, I would love to hear your answers to saresa's questions.  My prolactin was elevated and I am having it retested and may be required to get an MRI.  So, I have been looking for people with elevated prolactin to get info from.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Hi STL-it is nice to see someone I can relate to.  I have been lurking and haven't seen anyone with this issue.  I had a brain MRI and repeat bloodwork already.  Just waiting for endo appointments for results.

My first prolactin level was 3x normal (66)  From my research on Dr. Google, this issue is very manageable with medication whether or not it is caused by a tumor.  Prolactin affects progesterone level and high prolactin will delay ovulation or cause annovulation.

My first cycle off the pill was 84 days.  I also noticed nipple discharge, weight gain, and decreased sex drive off the pill.  Birth control was masking the problem.  I was feeling "off" though, when I was on the pill.  Had we not decided it was time to TTC, I was going to ask for a different pill.

Good luck to you as well!

Hi Saresa!  Mine was 45 something (which is just under 2x the labs cutoff for normal).  My level will be retested next week and if it is elevated, I will be sent for an MRI.  It came as a shock to me because I haven't had any nipple discharge and I appear to ovulate normally.  My long cycle since I stopped BCPs more than 1.5 years ago was 33 days.  I have gained weight since I stopped BCPs and I have IF, though.

I would love to hear how your Endo appoitnment goes!

  • Sorry for the late reply:

I've been trying to conceive for months now. After testing in April, my doctor advised me of a high prolactin level and suggested an MRI. I got the MRI done and I've taking Parlodel daily to bring the levels back down. I've had repeated testing twice now and I'm now down to 25 (which is right on the high but, normal side). I must say that the parlodel is really working as far as bringing down my prolactin level. I noticed issues after I stopped taking birth control. Some of my symptoms were, missing/short periods and discharge as well. Since taking Parlodel, I feel energized and I've had two regular menstrual cycles.

The endo specialist says we should be able to conceive naturally once the levels are where they need to be. I feel content just being able to chat with someone going through something similar! Just keeping the faith! Good luck! Please let me know if you need anything else and thanks for sharing.
