Babies: 6 - 9 Months

several abnormalities happening at once- help!

DD is 6 months now, and on Saturday we gave her oatmeal for the first time.  Then Saturday afternoon, she wasn't feeling well (attributed to teething) and was better but still not great on Sunday.  Today she has a rash- random red bumps on her face, arms, and stomach.  The only "cluster" is on her stomach.  I may or may not have thrown a dryer sheet in the laundry with some of her stuff.  And today she only had 3 bottles for a total of 20oz.  So at this point I don't know if the baby oatmeal is causing a rash or maybe the dryer sheet, and maybe teething caused her to be miserable and a growth spurt is affecting her appetite?  Thoughts?  Advice?  I am definitely calling the pedi tomorrow, but this is just a lot of random weirdness all at once.  TIA!

  • omg, your siggy pic is adorable.

could it be prickly heat?  my ped told me even in air conditioning, the heat wave can affect a baby.  i hope she feels better soon

  • I'd stop the oatmeal and give her what you know she can have. watch to see if she gets better.

once she's feeling better try to give it to her again, but in a smaller amount and wait to see what happens. if it happens again, its an allergy. if not it was probably the dryer sheet or something else

  • Did she have a fever before the rash?  Could be Roseola.  Typically they have a fever for a few days and then break out into a rash.  My daughter is just getting over it. The rash lasted about a week.

  • Right around 6 months, I also gave my son Gerber Oatmeal as a change from his usual rice cereal.  After two meals, he broke out around his face and neck as well.  So I stopped the Oatmeal.

Turns out, there's hidden wheat in the oatmeal.  Gotta be so careful with that.  I read somewhere that you should avoid wheat until 1 year, anyway, so I 'm hoping his little system just wasn't ready for wheat.
