Whew! Made it through our first wedding

Barely! But we did. LO fussed during the ceremony but luckily they had speakers and a glass separation between the ceremony and reception areas, so we watched the ceremony from the reception area so we wouldn't bother anyone since nothing passed through the glass in either direction except what was on the speakers since the speakers were connected to the reception area too. Then, MH and I took turns taking care of him during the reception and he slept on and off but we even made it to the post-reception dancing before we headed out. Unfortunately, he bawled the whole drive back (even with the pacifier in his mouth) until we subdued him with trance music (he likes music with good, strong, steady beats) and then he slept for the last 10 minutes. Whew, part of me was wondering what we were thinking bringing a baby so young to a wedding (and tons of people wanted to touch and hold him, which made me uncomfortable but we ended up letting the MOG hold him for a bit) but I'm just glad we made it through and MH was happy that we made it (his good friend was the groom and he really wanted to make the wedding).

Re: Whew! Made it through our first wedding

  • Sounds like there were a few rough patches but over all it went really well!

We have a wedding coming up in October and I'm already nervous about that. I'm kinda wanting to get a sitter, but the boys are listed on the invite and Ben wants to take them - they'll be 6 months old at the time, so hopefully they'll be OK. On the plus side the dress is formal, so it means I can get them little onesies like this, right?

  • You guys are brave! Glad it went pretty well!
  • Haha, I can relate. We took A to a wedding last night and it was only a semi-nightmare. My mom spent an hour and a half trying to calm the wailing child in the parking lot, and she was stuck in the car because it was raining. After he nursed, he perked up and then was in a good enough mood to meet all the relatives. We left really early and then the dude wailed for half an hour on the way home... but then slept like an ANGEL in his crib, swaddle-free, all night long. What a ROLLER COASTER ride!

Yeah, what's with the wailing on the drive home after weddings? Usually he just sleeps on car rides--it was the first time he wailed so much on a drive! Good to hear you guys made it through okay too and it was nice that your mom helped you guys with A but I'm sure it was even tougher with the rain!

Ohhh, this would be so cute! We just had a nice cute Polo shirt with khaki overalls outfit that was a baby shower present. It said "Golf" on it which matched the wedding venue (golf resort) so that worked well =)

  • My brother is getting married in 3 weeks in the Okanagan (in BC).  It's MUCH hotter there that it is in Northern BC, so I'm worried about Elyse during the wedding as well as with the heat.

I got her a bib that says "I Love Aunty Meg and Uncle Cam" to keep the spit up off her dress so she looks clean and cute in family pictures.

  • wow, you're brave - congrats for making it through!  and teri - love the bib idea!
