not really, but kind of.
I always eat with him in my lap (I think the GTG ladies on Sat. noticed how he just sits there and takes it all in with his eyes). I have toys on the table for him to play with and put my plate out of his reach.
Well last night for dinner I had lots of stuff on my plate including watermelon and as usual he kept reaching for food so I put a watermelon wedge (no seeds) by his toys and sure enough, he went right for it. He is such a smart little guy - he figured out how which end was yummy (he would always shift it around in his hands so he could suck on the fruit, not the rind) and if he dropped it on the table he could distinguish it from his toys and immediately reach for it again. He mostly just licked at it but did gum it a little and then decided to be done by just setting it down and playing with toys instead. It won't be a regular event, but still a fun milestone and I'm excited to really have a go with solids at 6mo - wish I had thought to take some pictures.
he has had a little practice manipulating food like objects because I started giving him frozen breast milk in a mesh feeder a couple of times last week. He loves it. I found the perfect little set that included a feeder, extra bags, and a small ice cube tray that makes coin shaped cubes in the clearance at BRU for $5.
Last week after the dr. said his ear tugging, increased crying, and habit of "eating" burp clothes were all probably big signs of teething.
Re: Jack had his first food
that sounds cute! my mom has a picture of me eating watermelon at 5 months - I was just going to town, it looked like!
teething is no fun - I hope it passes quickly for you!
Cute!
My mom used to give Elaine cold broccoli stalks to gnaw on when she was teething. She never actually ate the broccoli, but chewing on it made her teeth feel better. Now I can't get her anywhere near broccoli.
