3rd Trimester

My mom has too many opinions!

I went over to my mom's today for lunch.  She has SO many opinions about how to make baby sleep on his own, what size clothing he'll need etc etc.  Geesh!  Hmm

She must think I'm going to birth a giant baby (although there is no reason to believe he's above average size, as I'm measuring right on track).  She told me today that I dont' need any newborn clothing and that he probably won't fit into his 0-3 month stuff either.  What?!?  I think she's nuts!  I don't think my child is going to come out needing 3-6 month clothing right away.

Re: My mom has too many opinions!

  • Ugh... ALL mom's have too many opinions LOL

  • i bet that is annoying! Or you could be at the other end and have a future mother-in-law that is beyond negative.  When we call her to tell her good news she says things like "Well, your life is now over" or  "I dont care what you do, im not the one stupid enough to be playing house".
  • LOL @ starting to wear clothes 3-6 months.

ALL mom's have opinions on how to take care of babies. Hopefully, you don't live with yours so she won't be there watching over your shoulder to make sure you are doing it "correctly"

  • Check this out, this was my daughter at 2 weeks old wearing her halloween costume

Little big?  She was around 7.5lbs here and she was wearing a size 0-3.  She was swimming in it!  Don't listen to your mom, get some NB size clothes, she wore that size for about 6-8 weeks.

  •   I can't blame you for feeling this way.  Does your Mom do this alot?  It may be well-intentioned but coming across the wrong way and she ought to be aware of it.  Is there a way you can talk to her about it? My mother sometimes does it too.

As for me, just get a few items per size and per weight and don't be afraid to go to Goodwill or look at garage sales.  It really is your choice anyway and not hers.

    Hang in there!

    Hugs!

  • Can I join you?  Mine is doing something like that more often..mentioning this or that.  I try to take it good-naturedly knowing she means well but AHHHHHHHH!!!

Try to let her know what her boundaries are now rather than later. I know it's hard but it'll be easier now.

Time to get to the gym but hang in there!

  • Smile and nod, then do what you want.  My mom is still hasseling me about the baby's crib being white and he's a boy - 'a WHITE crib for a boy??' - like I was literally torturing him by putting him in a white crib - gasp, the horror.  Let's not discuss the fact that the crib was FREE and it's brand new, how about we focus on that?  She's even gone so far as to ask me if his toddler bed will be the crib converted or if we will put him in another bed at that point...I don't even know what life with two kids will be like, what's on my mind is NOT what kind of toddler bed he will have.

Is there a point in motherhood where I too will lose my grasp on reality?  I am worried, it seems common.
