Update to MIL, she got benched

DH and I decided if MIL wants to take a trip to VA a week before my due date...she's off duty watching DS when the baby comes.

We're going to ask FIL and his GF (which will piss off my MIL to no end). They live outside of NYC, so it might take a bit for them to get to us (3.5-6 hours depending on traffic), but we already have at least 4 people who said they'd love to come over if we need to head to the hospital. If this doesn't work out we have a few other options.

So take that MIL. If going to VA is more important that being here for DS and for the new baby...we don't need you.

That stinks. Sorry. My parents flew to Ireland for a week 11 days before my due date with DS. I ended up being induced the next day. I told them they'd likely miss his birth if they went, and they scheduled the trip anyway. They were seething when they found out MIL was going to stay with us after DS's birth and help us out for 5 days, but it was their fault. If they had decided to use two vacation days to be there for their daughter and birth of their grandson, they would have been able to help. But Ireland was clearly more important. They also missed DD's 2nd birthday party and their reason was that my ILs were going to be here. Klassy - make my daughter suffer because you can't handle being around two people that are genuinely nice. After those two events, I stopped scheduling family functions around when they could be here. They will get an invitation like everyone else and they can RSVP like everyone else.
