Hi ladies! Just wanted to introduce myself and get some info...
My husband and I have been married since May 08 and went off the bc and started TTC in April 09. I was diagnosed with anovulation in May and just started my first round of Clomid last week. I came on here for some info and I see everyone talking about being monitored when it comes to Clomid. What exactly does that mean? Just want to make sure I'm on the ball ![]()
Thanks!
Re: New & Clomid question
You should have bloodwork on cd 3, and ultrasound on cd 3 checking for cysts caused by clomid, an ultrasound around cd 12-13 to check follicles and lining, 7 dpo bw (p4-progesterone)
My first cycle of clomid I did not do the baseline stuff (cd 3). This cycle I did.
Good luck!
This exactly! GL!
I assume you are seeing an RE and have had all your initial bloodwork, an HSG and a SHG, as well as a SA for your DH?
Clomid monitoring starts on cd3 with baseline b/w and u/s to make sure all hormone levels are normal and everything looks ok.
My RE starts monitoring on cd10 with b/w and u/s...then usually it is every other day (sometimes every day, sometimes every 2 days...it depends on how close they think I am until O) until ovulation.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
hrmm ok... now I'm a little worried.
Prior to the Clomid I had bloodwork done for prolactin, and then a urinalysis for HCG. My husband did the SA. What are the other two tests mentioned ^? The directions from my dr are to take Clomid days 5-9, blood test for progesterone day 21-23 and then a HCG urinalysis prior to day 1 of next cycle. I'm not seeing an RE, just my ob/gyn. I was never referred to one. We use Kaiser Permanente's in network doctors. Not sure if anyone has had any experience with KP before, but any info would be helpful!
Thanks again!
Definitely see an RE. OB's tend to hand out clomid like it's candy, without doing the proper testing beforehand, or monitoring while you're on clomid. I didn't need a referral for an RE, so look into your insurance's policy.
I would call your PCP and ask for a referral to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist). You may not be covered as well as you are with your OB, but you'll get the appropriate care and monitoring from the RE.
If they don't have an in-network RE, I'm sure they have a contract with one so you can at least get partial coverage. This is what my HMO does (it's not KP, but they are run the same way).
Take this advice. There are too many risks associated with Clomid to not have the proper monitoring. A close friend of mine had 11 mature follies on 50mg of Clomid, this is very dangerous.
Diagnosed with PCOS March '10 - Started 1000mg of Metformin

After 3 unsuccessful Clomid cycles, FSH+Ovidril+IUI+Progesterone=BFP!
Time to make Emilie a big sister!
May '16 2.0: Letrozole+FSH+Menopur+Ovidril+IUI+Progesterone=BFP! first beta-45.44, second beta-148
Agreed. I am surprised to hear your doc that is Kaiser are doing this. The Kaiser I go to, no one but the RE's Dept prescribe clomid or any kind of medication related to infertility/fertility.
