Talk to me about BC

So my next apt is july 9, and I plan to talk to them about BC.. I BF so I am limited on options. I have PCOS so I have always had a hard time with pills since I have tons of bleeding between periods ect. I thought about DEPO or an IUD, both of which lactation has ok'd while bfing.... My concern with an IUD is price, since my insurance won't cover it (Depo either but it's not as expensive).... anyone willing to share their experiences.... Any idea how much and IUD will cost?

DH wants to just do the condom route but I hate them and often get infections from them, and am allergic to spermicide, it's just not fun for me.... we want more kids but not for about 2 more years.

TTC #3 with PCOS. Long cycles, ovulate about 4-5 times a year Married 6/9/07 DS 7/15/08 Met RE 12/08 DD 6/2/10

Re: Talk to me about BC

  • I'm in the same boat as you - PCOS and all. I am still undecided on whether or not to get an iud because I have read mixed reviews of how it affects pcos symptoms. I may end up just going the condom or withdrawal route for a while until I'm done nursing. I have trouble ovulating on my own, anyhow.

ETA - My insurance recently increased coverage to $700ish toward the iud, so I imagine it is somewhere in this price range to have it inserted.

  • We will be doing the IUD, and I had a great experience with it last time. It was in for 3 years and a couple months with no problems. Our insurance did cover part of it tho...and I believe it was about $100 for us......and totally worth every penny. No worries about missing pills, and super easy to put in and take out. We were pregnant within 4 months of having it taken out.
