DS is 6.5 weeks old. I read somewhere that BM supply will increase through 4 months. Is this true? I have 40 oz. in the freezer and am trying to build a stash. DH feeds DS one bottle a day, when I go work out (I try to time it so that DS doesn't need the bottle, but this rarely works out as he cluster feeds in the afternoon / evenings). I am pumping about 4oz/day and really would like to get more.
I pump
after his 3am feeding, and usually get 2-3oz. Then I try to power pump
after his 8am feeding, but that nap is not reliable, and it's hard to
put him down long enough to pump during the day. I also power pump from
8-9pm, but only get 1oz, total.
I also feel like, in the evenings when DS cluster feeds, my boobs are empty. Is it possible that he is still getting any milk?
So--
Am I pumping correctly? Any advice about times? How do you pump if your LO needs to be held all day?
Will my supply increase as he grows older? I am eating oatmeal and taking Fenugreek. I eat plenty and drink water constantly. What else can I do? (SHOULD I do?)
Re: XP from BF: Will mt supply increase and other Q's.
I switched from EBFing to pumping only a few weeks ago due to some issues DD had with latching. Anywho...I am by no means well versed in pumping, but I had some similar issues with supply and getting her to cooperate.
As far as the supply issues, my LC suggested the mother's milk tea or the more milk plus drops (at whole foods or similar type store). I drink the tea and have noticed an increase in amount. I never did the power pumping as finding that much time to pump was impossible...DD is a touchy baby. My LC said its normal to have the most milk in the morning and supply with decrease through the day. Your baby is more that likely still getting some milk at night even if you aren't pumping anything as they are more efficient than the pump. The cluster feeding will also tell your body to make more milk.
As far as hands free pumping, I bought a hands free bra. It is more like a band you put over your bra, but it works really well and I can soothe DD while pumping. Sometimes I have to take the pump off if she is really fussy, but I just try to make up the time as soon as I can. You may also try massaging your boobs at the end of a pumping session or pumping right after a nice hot shower. That may increase what you get as well.
