I just wanted to share this with you all.
I put DS down for his morning nap this morning in his crib and was in the living room doing homework. I heard him SCREAMING bloody murder and ran in the room to find him on his stomach sideways in the crib with his leg stuck between the bars up past his knee! I hadn't realized he was stuck until I tried to lift him up at which point I tried to free him. I couldn't get him and started bawling my eyes out. I called my DH while I ran around the house trying to find something to break the bars with (bars are wooden). DH didn't answer and I couldn't find anything to help me so I tried to free DS again with no luck. I called 911, and while I was giving the operator my address, I finally freed DS. It was the scariest moment of my life so far. The operator asked me a series of questions and determined no assitance was needed, but to call back if I felt necessary later. I thought he had possibly been injured but I laid him on the living room floor he settled down, he rolled over and crawled away happily. I finally got a hold of DH and he said why didn't you use some vaseline? I was so panicked I never even thought of it!
I am going to get the breathable bumpers tonight and for now DS is sleeping in his swing. So scary.
Re: SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE
What crib do you have? I thought the spacing was suppose to prevent that!? Super scary!!
Glad he was not hurt! It was probably harder on you then him!
You need some wine tonight! Ha!
DD gets her leg stuck each time I take the bumper off. For that reason she still has the bumper on. I have thought about getting a breathable bumper too but I figure it won't be much longer before it isn't necessary at all.
I hear all the drop sides are getting recalled. But not sure about that one. Maybe you could get a refund check by contacting the company! How nice would that be?
Sorry you are so shakin up! I would be too!!
I'm so sorry that happened to you and your little guy!
Our crib meets all the requirements for slat spacing, but DD has also gotten her upper leg stuck in them. Not to the extent that your LO did, but it's caused her pain. We got the breathable bumpers a couple of weeks ago, and I love them.
I have heard that too, but we never drop the sides so I always assumed we'd be ok. I should send the company some sort of letter, not sure if it will do anything, but it can't hurt.
I would def call and tell them what happened..I would see if it was recalled and if it was I would return it. I am so sorry you went through that..and am so happy your LO is ok!!
I would check the recall list. They are sending out hardware to immobilize the dropside. It's not about whether you use the dropside, but when LO is old enough to stand up using the crib rails. It poses a significant risk to your LO - please check and contact the manufacturer.
Thank you I will look into it!
Oh, and sorry about your LO, that's scary! My DD loves to sleep with her foot sticking through the slats and I'm always worried about something like this!
