Potty Training

Stopping liquids before bedtime ?

If we dont even eat dinner half of the time until 6-7pm, does that mean I should delay DD's bedtime to fit the no liquids before bedtime window?

I work FT and by the time I get home and get dinner ready some nights, it's kind of late...

Thoughts?

Re: Stopping liquids before bedtime ?

  • DD has been going to bed later this summer than during the school year (like 8:30-9:30 instead of 7/7:30), so I've been cutting her off around 6:30. She always pees before bed and then sometimes STTN without needing to pee and then sometimes she does get up once in the night to pee. I'd say it's about 1/2 and 1/2, but she's never wet her bed, so I'm not worried about it. I'm not sure what we'll do when it starts getting dark earlier and school starts back (her schedule sort of revolves around DS's). Normally we'll eat around 6 and they're in bed by 7:30, so we'll just have to see what happens.

You could try pushing her bedtime back a bit if she tolerates it well or else just make sure she drinks less than normal (give her more earlier if need be). I do occasionally let DD have sips if she's thirsty past 6:30, I just don't fill up a cup. Sips are usually all she needs. GL!

  • Personally, I don't do this.  Yes, I don't let my DD have a full glass of anything after dinner (we eat at around 5:30 and bedtime is around 7/7:30 but a child that night trained will wake up if she has to go potty.  I just always make sure my kids go potty right before bed - last thing we do before tucks.  My older DD who has been trained for night for well over a year wakes up maybe a few times a month at night and otherwise, can hold it 12 hours or however long she is sleeping.
