3rd Trimester

Have you talked to your hospital about diapers?

I did my L&D tour this week and noticed that they are still using Swaddlers in the nursery.  I asked the nurse if they would be changing given the problems and she said she didn?t know and would have someone call me back.

One of the nursing managers called me today and was shocked that I was asking about diapers.  She said she had not fielded any diaper questions and was unaware of the issues with the Dry Max.  That shocked me.  How have they not heard about the issues?  They did say we could bring our own diapers if we had an issues with what they were using.

I was going to try the dry max but after talking with my sister (an L&D nurse) and hearing about all of the reactions the babies at her hospital are having we aren't even chancing it.

So, if you hospital uses Pampers are you just going to bring your own diapers to use during your stay?

Re: Have you talked to your hospital about diapers?

  • I think we will try them and see how DS3 reacts.  I loved them with DS2 and I was not a big huggies fan.  SO I am really hoping they work with us.  If not DH will bring some diapers up.

  • I've heard that Huggies leak and my SIL uses the pampers dry max with no complaints... I'll use pampers until my LO has a rash or something happens
  • I don't think the Swaddlers have Dry Max. Either way, I loved how soft they were and how they fit my first son. There is a lot of controversy about whether or not there is any merit behind the allegations. I find it hard to believe that they recall some things for seemingly little reason, yet THOUSANDS of kids are getting "burned" and they are still on the market. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again.
  • We are just avoiding them altogether. Dry max that is.

  • I don't think I'll bring my own diapers to the hospital. I read that the dry max diapers were causing reactions in 1 out of 6 million diaper changes, so I think I'll watch closely and if she has a reaction then we'll switch.

  • I am avoiding dry max based on photos other bumpies have posted on here - I don't want to treat my baby like a guinea pig and just hope that she doesn't have a reacton...I didn't even think of asking the hospital what they use, I just planned on bringing some that we bought in case they did use dry max.
  • Thats interesting that they didnt know about it. I was settled on brining our own

  • I had my first of two sessions of birthing class at my hospital last week and asked the nurse teaching the course the same questions. She hadn't heard of anything going on with the diapers either!  They use pampers at my hospital, but she said to feel free to bring my own.  I think I will.  We're planning on Earth's Best.

Yes, the Swaddlers do have Dry Max, as per the Pampers website.

  • I think (excuse me if I'm way off) there are pampers swaddlers sensitive without dry max, but if your hospital said they are using dry max & you don't want your LO to use them then bring your own & make sure you make that known to the staff when you get there!

I've heard so many mixed reviews about dry max that I am just going to avoid them all together.

I think mo matter what diaper you use you will have 1 person that hates them and another that loves them.

I just wish the orginal swaddlers were still available.  I've only heard amazing things about those.

This is how EVERYTHING is when you have baby.  From laundry detergent, shampoo, clothes (yes clothes Carters had a big recall when DS2 was a baby because of the tags causing rashes) food, milk, ect.

I stand corrected. My experience with them with my first was a good one. Obviously if this baby seems to have any problems with them then I will discontinue them, but I will wait to see. To each their own! Oh, and Huggies just did not fit my son right. Some brands just fit some babies better then others. Happy diapering! (Whether it be cloth, Pamper's, Huggies, Gdiapers, organics......)

  • Hospitals will do anything and everything not to get sued.  If it was that much of a problem I think the hospitals would be the first to stop using them.

That's my first thought too. Although I do think it's odd that a nurse working in Maternity had never even heard of the issue.

Ditto this. I'm CDing after a couple weeks, anyways. I have old, non-Dry Max Swaddlers that I'll be using until that.

  • This content has been removed.
  • I decided to bring my own and handle it when I get admitted.  If they are using swaddlers with drymax I'll request ours be used instead. If they aren't, I'll keep mine tucked away and not mention it.

I was on the fence about it but after talking to real life friends who have kids in swaddlers/cruisers and hearing that the majority had their kids develop rashes pretty quickly after using them, I decided to against using drymax at any point.

  • I just wanted to let all of you know that I work at Pampers and totally understand your concerns with what you're hearing about Pampers with Dry Max. But I assure you that all of our diapers are safe to use. In fact, Dry Max diapers have the same types of ingredients as our previous version. As an overly cautious mom of two girls myself, I like to look into most of the products I plan to purchase for our household. So I hope that you'll check the Pampers website for some additional information. https://www.pampers.com/en_US/dry-max-faqs
  • Pampers were one of the only brands that didn't give dd a rash. Every kid is different. So I will use whatever the hospital has and if there is a rash I will switch. You can't get through the first few months without a diaper rash of some sort.

  • Yup I'm definitely bringing my own and it's written on my birth plan. I'm using cloth diapers, but not until the cord falls off. So I bought bamboo disposables (no chemicals, no dyes, no perfumes, no bleach) and I'm bringing my own wipes too.
