2nd Trimester

Probably a stupid question - but...

So this upcoming weekend, we are going to my dad's and there will be lots of boating on the agenda. I know I should know this - considering this is my 2nd pg, but I never went boating while pg with DD.

Obviously I've looked up some things on Google and will call my Nurse if I need to...but I also wanted your thoughts/experiences. Have you heard if this is safe? Have you gone boating while in your 2nd Tri? We will be going fast, I'm sure it'll get bumpy at times, and that's what I'm worried about most - the bumpiness.

TIA for your opinions! I know, stupid question - but I appreciate you reading and responding anyway! =)

  • I would think that you'd be fine on a boat. A speed boat or cigarette not so much. I'd check with your OB.

  • Boats are perfectly fine so long as the water is calm. If it's choppy it's not recommended, and sometimes strongly cautioned against. I was out on the water with DD in a jet ski for the entire pregnancy before I found that was a problem, so I'm not an advocate of over-precautions, but I would check with your MW or OB and find out what they say.
  • I wouldn't go. Similar to a roller coaster with the speed and bumps. Might be fine, but I wouldn't risk it.

  • Call your OB and ask.... I've heard mixed things about this.

  • My doctor told me that our pontoon boat is fine.  Anything where you'll be experiencing lots of choppiness they discourage.  He also said NOT to get in the lake or the ocean, which I had no idea about before and have found lots of people who have never heard that so... ?
  • I went yeseterday! We stayed in the bay, didn't go to the ocean, the water was calm and we tried to stay away from other boats. I was fine. I think it depends on the size of the boat. I was on a 40 foot cabin cruiser so we weren't getting tossed around a lot. There were a few bumps, but nothing worse than a typical car ride, IMO.
