2nd Trimester

Eye Exam? Safe during second trimester?

I have an eye appointment tomorrow and I was told it's okay to get my pupils dilated. Is this true?

  • Yes, you can. Just let your eye doctor know your pregnant.

  • being pregnant can change the shape of your eye temporarily.  I am waiting until a couple months after I deliver to go back so I don't end up there again before my year's up.

  • I have heard it is okay, but my doctor chose not to dialate my eyes to be safe. I was fine with that!
  • This is actually on my list to ask the OB at my next appt.

My dr specifically asked if I was pregnant or nursing. I was only like 6 weeks at the time and he said they do not dilate in anyone pregnant or nursing. I had the rest of the exam though just fine.

i went at about 8 weeks and my eye dr also opted not to dilate my eyes. he did use the numbing drops to check the pressure, though.
