How long to wait until taking LO to grocery store, mall? 2 months?!? why?

OK, I was reading a post about someone's pedi saying to stay away from the grocery store and mall for 2 months, my pedi said 4 weeks, and it seems like others say the baby can go out right away!

Is this related to the vaccines that are given at 2 months? Are the worried about the baby catching a cold in a public place? I want to do the right thing, but not be too neurotic!

I waited until 2 weeks because thats when I felt ready. It really had nothing to do with her.

I don't worry about taking her to the store or mall because no one touches her at those places.

I think with my first I waited 2 weeks. With this one, we started taking him out right away. With a toddler in tow, you kind of have to.

We went to the grocery store with her around 1.5 weeks. We had no choice, and nobody came near her.

Part of it is a personal preference. My DS was born in Feb. so we were a little wary of cold/flu season, but had it not been for my healing time needed due to my c-section, DS and I would have been grocery shopping at 4 weeks instead of 8.

Hmm, not something I worried about really! MW's cleared me to take her out as soon as I was ready - she was out for a walk around town at 4 days old, and at the mall/stores around 1.5-2 weeks.

Due to my c/s it will be probably 2 weeks or so.... I wouldn't let anyone near her.

I waited about 3 weeks but could have gone out at 2 weeks. My pedi said it's safer to take her to a mall or grocery store because no one is touching her and handling her like they would if we had people in our house.

I'm just not taking DD out around a lot of people in a closed space (graduation & wedding) until after 2 months. That's because of the vaccination thing.

My pedi didn't make any such rec for either child so I took them out when I felt I wanted to, about a week for DD and 2days old for DS.

We went to Babies R Us, the mall, and to dinner at TGI Fridays yesterday when DD was 10 days old. We kept her covered for the most part and made sure to wash/ sanitize after touching door knobs and things. No one had any interaction with her except us (except for all the oo's and aw's). I had to get out of the house- I was so stir crazy!

We started taking him out at week 2. He is either in his car seat, the moby, or his uppababy with the shield down....so no one can even see him. I would go stir crazy staying in the house, esp when we have things to get done.

Agreed, we went out to dinner at 1 1/2 weeks, and the Space Needle at 2 1/2 weeks! We just take him with us, he lives in his car-seat or my wrap, and no one can get to him when he's snoozing in his wrap.

We took DS to the mall for the first time at 3 weeks. As other pp said, it really had nothing to do with him...it was based more on when we absolutely needed to get something/how I was feeling.

I took dd out at 3 days old. I wasn't worried as my pedi told me that she has all of my antibodies until 6 weeks old. I would have gone stir crazy if I had waited any longer! I left dd covered up and didn't let people near her and she is just fine.

This was us. My pedi said just to be smart about it. Don't be in really congested places or let strange people touch LO. I would have went crazy if I waited 2 months.

The pedi says 2 mos. We plan to take baby out at 2 w ks to a healing arts place for my postpartum massage to visit with one of the people who helped mama through a painful pregnancy.

At wk 3 we plan to go to the mall in the middle of the week during the day to do some errands.

It is what you are comfortable with. A little apprehensive b/c DS is FF and not getting mom's immune goodies. But I think we will be fine.
