clomid success story?

Hi, I was wondering if there were any clomid success stories out there?  I am awaiting CD1 and then will be starting on clomid (3/7 day).  I know that there are a lot of scary stories out there about women taking clomid unmonitored (I am being closely watched by my doctor) and some of the side effects, but I was wondering if there was a positive side to clomid.

Re: clomid success story?

  • I wasn't ovulating prior to taking clomid (dr. thinks due to stress... u/s showed a bunch of immature follicles that produced enough estrogen to trick my brain into releasing LH, so my periods were regular despite not having a mature follicle/ovulating).  I ovulated right away on 50mg of clomid, and I had very minimal side effects.  One or two nights a month I would have hot flashes that would wake me up.  I noticed some changes in CM (didn't seem like I had as much around ovulation), but the ultrasound showed that my "mucus stripe" in my cervix was still fine, and my uterine lining remained fine.

We conceived on our third Clomid cycle!

  • I was trying for 6 months and only has 2 periods during that time, so I figured I had PCOS (I'm a PA, so learned all about it in school and my OB rotation). I hadn't gotten my period in almost 60 days, so I made an appt with my MW. Luckily, I got my period 2 days before, so my appt was on CD3. She tested me in the office for PCOS and told me if it were positive, she'd give me clomid. Well, I begged her to write me an Rx that day since I was CD 3 and I needed to start it that night. She agreed, and I took 50mg on CD 3-7. I had NO side effects. No hot flashes, nothing, so I was worried it didn't work. A couple of days later my blood work did come back suggesting PCOS (mild), so we scheduled an u/s on CD 15 so that we could check for peripheral cysts and to see if I was O'ing. Luckily, the tech saw one mature follicle that was rupturing, so we knew I was O'ing. About 10 days later, got my BFP, which resulted in a beautiful baby girl. I went off BCP when DD was 9 months old thinking I would wait to see how my cycles were for a few months, but BAM, got KU with this baby the 2nd month.

FWIW, me, my mom, my MW, my boss, and two other friends all got KU on the first cycle of clomid, so it does happen! Hang in there :)

  • Clomid is a miracle drug for me.....we conceived my daughter and this baby on clomid- both on just one cycle! Yes, it does have side effects but if you get pregnant it will be worth it :)
  • I used clomid to get pregnant with DD. After a miscarriage and almost 2 years of not being able to get pregnant, my OB did a fertility work up. I was diagnosis with unexplained infertility. I knew I wasn't ovulating monthly through temping and the use of a fertility monitor. One round of clomid (50mg) did the trick. Good luck to you!
  • I was extremely lucky and got pregnant on my first cycle of Clomid. I did have some side effects - but it obviously ended up being worth it :)

  • I just got my BFP after 1 round of clomid.  I didn't think that the side effects on 50mg were that bad.  I took it right before bed, and I think that helped.  GL.
  • Thank you for sharing your stories.  You have given me hope.  When dr first prescribed it I as excited and hopeful, but the I got on here and heard all of the horror stories and started getting a little stressed out.  Its good to know that there is a happy side to clomid as well.
  • Me!  I have PCOS and an essentially anovulatory without meds - my docs agree that I ovulate maybe once or twice a year on my own, no more than that.  It took us 3 cycles of clomid + ovidrel (to trigger ovulation), but we got our BFP!  And so far, in two ultrasounds, everything seems to be right on track.  Smile

Also, I never had any of the side effects you read about on the bump while using clomid.  My lining never thinned, I didn't get night sweats, never developed cysts, nothing.  I felt absolutely normal the whole time I was on it (I took it at night, right before bed, in hopes that I wouldn't notice any potential side effects).

  • my husband and i tried for baby #2 when my daughter wasnt even a year old, we got pregnant on the first try but sadly, i miscarried. that was sept of 2008. we have been trying ever since with a few breaks in between- i did 3 rounds of clomid & nothing. i did gain almost 25 pounds on those 3 rounds and had hotflashes. so i took a 5 month break from ttc (but we werent preventing) and lost 50 pounds bc we were going to cancun with a bunch of our friends. i took my fourth round of clomid-the only side effect that time was hot flashes again but it did the trick-we got preggo in cancun!!!! i am now 7 weeks pregnant. i had an ultrasound already & everything is perfect so far-i saw and heard the heartbeat!! good luck to you & dont give up!! miracles really do happen ;)

  • I was diagnosed with Unexplained IF and tried clomid with a trigger. It worked on the second month for us! (I ovulate fine on my own)

  • Yes, see siggy. For me, the BFP happened in an IUI cycle, but Clomid was key to making it work!

I have PCOS.  I went of the pill in 2/07 and never got AF.  My first appt with an OBGYN was 7/07.  After a bunch of labs and two cycles of just Provera, I started Clomid (50mg maybe?) in 12/07.  The first round didn't work, but the second did!  I got my BFP with DS1 on 2/17/08...less than a year after going off the pill.  I never had any negative side effects.

Since we had all of the troubles last time, I never went back on the pill after DS was born.  We figured if it happened on its own, then it was definitely meant to be.  We just got a surprise BFP on 6/16 and couldn't be more excited.

Good luck and DO NOT stress out!!!  Things will work out and there shouldn't be any side effects if you are being carefully monitored.

  • We tried for almost two years to get pregnant on our own.  Last summer, we had a miscarriage.. but that was the closest that we came to success.  The dr began fertility testing with us and everything came back normal... I was ovulating like clockwork, tubes looked great, uterus was great, husband's workup was very good, etc.  This year, we starting using Clomid, and I had all the emotions you do!  I was so excited about trying something new, but worried about the horror stories I'd heard.

The only symptom I experienced was hot flashes. The dr decided that we would try with three cycles before exploring other options.  On our third cycle, I was extremely stressed at work (we had some HUGE things going on and I had a coworker from HELL at the time) and I ovulated a little later than normal.  We thought that for SURE this wasn't going to work out.  BOY WERE WE SURPRISED!!

It worked for us and I hoe that it works for you, too!  I know it's a kind of scary time, but stay positive!!  :)
