Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Whose 9 month old could nap on the beach?

We're headed to the beach for a vacation later this summer, and I'm starting to wonder if beach-napping is a possibility. I really don't want to spend 4 hours a day in the room....or have to rotate with DH. Although, it'll still be worth it either way.

TIA!

  • Mine definitely couldn't, but I would give it a go regardless.

  • My DD isn't 9 months yet but I could tell you that she probably couldn't.  She is too busy looking around and would just be over stimulated and fight sleep.

If I put her in a stoller or something and shaded her with a blanket over top so she couldn't see out, than maybe.

    I'd still try though.

  • We went to the beach when DS was 8 months old and he slept in the Ergo while I hung out in our beach tent.  It was kinda hot for me, but he was sound asleep and I didn't have to hang out all alone at the beach house.
He wouldn't just nap in the tent.  Do you have a carrier?  Would he sleep in that?
  • That's what I was fearing....I guess we'll just have to play it by ear! Thanks all! Adorable babies, btw!
  • Bring a stroller. I was at the beach yesterday and DS fell asleep for 1.5 hrs in stroller.  We have a Phil and Teds, works great in the sand.
  • Here in VA it's 96 in the shade and super humid, so no way would my LO be outside with this air quality for more than an hour.  Could he nap?  Sure.
  • We took DS to vegas with us and he slept on a lounge chair for his nap.  Nothing stops my kid from napping no matter where we are.

  • We've taken our DD to the beach 2x. The first time she did not nap and was a bad experience b/c while it was perfect for us (sunny and great breeze) it was too cold for her. So, make sure you pack something to put on over their bathing suit. We just went again yesterday and we have a beach tent. I was able to rock her and she fell asleep in my arms and then I transferred her into the tent..she slept for a good hour in the tent plus about 15 min in my arms. It's definitely worth a try but I love our beach tent!

Mine could nap anywhere.. but it might be because he is use to being shuffled around!  I usually just put him in the stroller.

We've been to the beach twice this month and she napped both times. First time we brought a PNP, second time we had a tent.
  • At naptime I would just go put DS in the car and drive around until he fell asleep, then I'd transfer his car seat to my stroller without having to move him...the stroller is a BOB so it has no problem getting through sand.

  • Well, mine just napped through the 8th and 9th innings of the Tigers at the Braves, so I'd guess probably.
  • She was 7 months and napped better than at home on the beach.  But we do have her sleep to the ocean noise on the white noise machine every night.
  • Not mine- I doubt he could've ever (except maybe the first week we brought him home).

  • Our does. We have him nap in his little beach tent (the Kidco Pea Pod)
  • I've never tried to get him to nap at the beach, when we do go we bring the stroller and go for a walk while he sleeps. It's actually kind of nice to get a break from the sun and get a bite to eat.
