Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How soon is too soon?

DH and I are talking about trying for another baby. We said when DD was about a year. Well with his deployment he was talking about maybe a little sooner (since he'll be gone at the end of this year till sometime next year) I would, if we conceived, be pregnant through deployment. Which doesn't bother me. My dr said trying at anytime was ok, he said everything checked out perfectly. But, how soon, is too soon? People will think we're nuts.

Re: How soon is too soon?

  • God, I would LOVE to have another one right away! But with DH not helping for ***, and financial reasons, I need to hold off Sad It's not crazy...get it over and done with now while you're still young and you (somewhat) have the energy. So hard when there are 2U2 tho!

Try when you and your H are ready :)

  • We're definitely ready. And, we certainly have the energy for 2u2. We talked about charting, which I am so completely clueless about.

  • We just had our first, and I'll be 34 next month.  We would like to have 3 so we'll be getting on it right away.  My doc originally said a year, then he said we'd be fine to try in 6 months.

As far as what people say, we got criticized because we were pregnant right after we got married.  I got the most criticism from my aunt whose daughter was pregnant before she got married.  Insane.  About our situation I said, people will say we didn't give the first one enough attention.  My friend says, you know they never say that about twins, they never say things like oh man twins, one won't get enough attention.

In regards to charting and all that, I was pretty clueless too.  I bought the book "Taking Control of Your Fertility."  Now as it turns out, we never got to use it becuase we were pregnant right away, but it is amazing the stuff I didn't know about my body! If you know what to look for there are lots of clues.  I bought a copy off of half.com for like $8 including shipping.

GL, maybe we'll travel through pregnancy again together!

  • We will start TTC #2 when DS is 6 months old.  People think we are crazy, but we don't care.

  • Don't worry about what others think; everyone is always going to have an opinion one way or the other. My two are 15 months apart and I got comments (during pregnancy) that were both positive and negative.

That being said, I think that it would be really hard to have two that aren't walking yet. But, most (not all) babies are walking around 12 months so if you conceived in the next few months you should be good.

    Good luck!

  • We're going to start trying again in 6 months b/c I'm 37 and DH's deployments/sea duty starts up again in 2 years, so it would be nice to have our 2nd while he's still around.

At 6 week PP appt. my doc recommended I wait 6 months so that my C-section scar has time to heal. Which is fine by me. I can't imagine starting any sooner than that.

    Thanks so much!

Looks like there's a lot of us trying when DC is about 6 months. Who knows, we all may be pregnant together again!

  • If it is what you want, you think you can handle being pregnant with a baby while your DH is deployed, and your doctor says things are fine to do that, then by all means go ahead! Your kids would be close in age and great playmates!

More power to you. I had a horrible c-s recovery and a non-sleeper who used me as a human paci with my first! So I was not ready for the exhaustion and sickness of pregnancy till he was 2 years old! It has worked great for us - he's potty trained so only have one in diapers, in a big kid bed so we didn't have to buy another crib, etc. But sometimes I wish my kids would have been a little closer in age than almost 3 years.

It's a very helpful site for charting. Lots of great info. Also, the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a GREAT resource! Both we're very helpful for us. Without them it may have been years before our BFP.

This. I used the site for 3 months (3 cycles) before I got pregnant. Also, the ladies on the Getting Pregnant board (which is now Trying to Get Pregnant) were extremely helpful and supportive with charting. Some of them have been charting for awhile and really were my go-to girls for when I had no idea what I was doing. GL to you! Do what you are ready for :)

  • Wait Jazz....weren't you just having major issues with your husband?  I'm not on here a lot cause of Livy's AR, but I seem to remember issues where he was abusive to you and didn't want anything to do with Brylee.  Just because it's been better for a couple weeks doesn't mean all is well and you guys should have another right away.  His behavior was pretty nasty and extreme.  I'd think you should make sure that he's up to being a good father (for more than 2 wks!) to Brylee before bringing another baby into the picture.  Also, consider how damaging it is for children to see one parent abuse the other.  You need to give it time to make sure all is well....

     I'd wait!!

  • Because of me being a teacher a May baby (came early to be an April baby) was perfect timing.  It is allowing me to have 4 whole months home with DS.  So, because of that we are going to try in August just to see if we get "lucky" (with the help of fertilityfriend.com and charting of course).  If so, great, if not, no biggie either.  If we got pregnant they'd be just a year apart.  If not, then we will wait until DS is 1 to start trying again. :)
  • i think if you're ready you should go for it! i would love to have another in a year but we'd like to be more financially stable when the next one comes along.  we had just gotten engaged when we found out we were pregnant and haven't gotten to have our "dream wedding" or buy our first house yet.  for those reasons, we're waiting 3-5 years.

This!! DH and I said 12-18 months but now that she's here we can't wait to have another. I'm talking to my dr about when it's safe to try again since I had a c section at my appointment next Friday. (not that we'll start trying now, just to find out a time line) GL!

  • If you are ready then who cares what anyone else thinks. I have a friend that has 4 kids all 18 months apart. We are definitely thinking about trying pretty soon, we want more children and I would rather have them closer in age.
