I had that in my first and beginning of second tri. My doc said it's just because of how your bladder is positioned at that point, and how it contracts down once emptied. He said it's completely normal if it is doing it only when full. But if it hurts every time I peed he would have tested for a UTI.
I haven't experienced this but pg coworker (who is now almost 36 wks) said that when holding her pee too long she has a contraction after peeing. Her doctor said it's normal and she hasn't had any problems from it, although she didn't mention is being painful so you might ask your doc about it.

I'll definitely ask my doctor at my appointment next week. I have to stop holding my pee! I woke up from a nap and DH asked me to help shave his head and I just wanted to get it over with even though I had to pee like a mother. Stupid, stupid.

Oh no! DH knows to not even talk to me until I've peed!

I had this too in earlier pg when I held it too long. Lesson learned. And now if I hold it too long, I get BHs like crazy (which only make m heave to pee more bc it feels like my bladder is being squeezed) and then after I get a menstrual like cramp sometimes. So I try to pee before it gets to the full point.
In memory of precious Julia, sweet baby James, and now Timmy who fought so hard.

I get that sometimes when I've held it for too long. It happens to me alot when I wake up at night to pee. It's almost like a sore feeling but it goes away after a few seconds. Not fun, so I try not to hold it but it's hard when you have to go every 10 minutes!
I kinda have this now too... I have no idea if it is the same thing but I will keep trying to go and then all of a sudden a whole bunch of pee comes out in a burst...

its beauty and glory
belong to our world.
But then it flies on again.
And though we wish it could have stayed
we feel so lucky to have seen it.

I had this throughout my pg with DS and I started having it again a few days ago. My old OB said it was normal, and I never had a UTI while pg so I'm guessing she was correct!

Ah, makes sense! Thank you so much!

It was the first one I've ever had. I figured it wasn't normal when i cramped after peeing so I went to the Dr. before it got crazy

Good thing you caught it early! They really are the worst.
It's a new rule in our house too.
You need to just pee more often!
