Duo Diaper = fail. why?

This was his first time in a CD for more then to try it on.  I washed and dried them last night. 

He was in it for about 2 hours.  He was in his bouncer  it looked like he leaked.  Well, I changed him and the WHOLE diaper was soaked!  I only used the cotton/hemp insert so maybe that was an issue but it was the whole diaper including the outside, his onesie and even some on the bouncer. 

What did I do wrong?

    If the whole diaper was soaked it sounds like you need more / better inserts. I'd try using both inserts or one of the inserts and a hemp doubler.

    do you have a hemp doubler you can reccomend? :)  Will that add a lot of bulk?

     If he soaks through that in 2 hours I can only imagine what Ill need overnight.  I bought a blueberry for overnight.  Will that be enough you think?

    Hes in the diaper about 12 hours overnight.

    How many times did you wash the hemp insert before using it?  It really needs to be washed at least 3 times in hot water before becoming absorbant.  It becomes really absorbant after about 6 washes.

    I haven't used the Duo yet, but most of my diapers will only last up to 2 hours.  That is pretty standard for CDs.  You need to change more frequently than you do sposies.  For nights, we've used pockets stuffed with extra inserts, but those usually lead to leaks.  Our foolproof (so far) night system consists of heavy-duty fitteds (Goodmamas, B4s and Sbish bamboo) with wool covers.  I couldn't put DD in one of our day-designated diapers overnight and expect her to wake up dry.

    I didnt even think about washing the hemp insert more then once since it was just an insert.  Thank you!

    Ill wash that 5 more times tomorrow.  Can I was it with the Blueberry bamboo I bought today and my BG bamboo fitteds?

    One more question...Do I have to do the cold rinse every time I wash them to prep or just once since its soaked with pee?

    The pre-rinse is to get the yuckies off, so if it's already clean, just do a wash.  If you're not using detergent, you can skip the extra rinse at the end, too.

    2 hours  can be on the long side for any diaper really. I change dd when ever she pees. When she was little that could be as often as every 6 minutes ( yes I timed it). At night though you can put more inserts in if needed. We still changed her when wet because she always woke up anyways. Now she just doesn't tend to pee from midnight till 8 or 9 am.
