Two Under 2

Repeat c-section ladies

Was your hospital stay shorter and recover easier with #2?  I stayed in the hospital 5 nights with dd, but one night of that was waiting for me to dilate and efface more-which never happened.  I'm really hoping my stay will be shorter this time because I don't want to be away from dd that long.

Re: Repeat c-section ladies

  • I was ALLOWED to leave early ALL 3 times. I CHOSE to stay IN the hospital for my entire stay. I KNEW that if I went home early, it would not be to my benefit. I would start to do everything around the house, etc. I needed to heal.

I know there are people that leave early, but i am NOT one of them. I consider my hospital stay a "mini vacation". I only had to take care of a newborn, who basically ate, slept and pooped all day. MUCH easier than caring for a newborn and another (or 2 more) child.

And honestly, your DD won't remember that you came home 1 or 2 days earlier.........

    GL!

  • My dr wants to keep me four nights and like Harriet, I plan to stay the entire time. It gives your body more chance to heal, and more time to bond with the baby without chasing after the older child. My mom and MIL will take turns watching DD while I'm in the hospital on DH's work days, and they will bring her to visit me so she'll still get to see me.

I think if you give yourself the extra couple of days to heal in the hospital, you will feel more like yourself sooner and it will be easier to get back to doing normal things around the house.

My BFF chose to come home early with her #2 and was okay, but her DD was 4 1/2 and able to play more independently, use the bathroom herself, etc. My other friend came home early with her #2 and totally regretted it because her #1 was only 2 and she had to chase him all day.

  • You ladies are probably right.  My dh will be home to help with dd, though.  I probably won't regret being in the hospital the whole time but might regret coming home early.  It's just such  long time to be away from dd.
  • My hospital stay was the same length - I wouldn't have wanted to leave earlier.  I missed DS and he did come to visit but that time with DS2 was very special.

My recovery was about equal except I didn't have as much time to rest with #2 so by the end of each day I was more worn out than I was with #1.

You have plenty of time - start leaving her for overnights if you can so you can both get used to it.  Just one or two nights.  Do you have family or friends that she can stay with?

  • Yes, definitely! My recovery was so much better the second time around (first time was an emergency c-section after laboring for 10 hours) because it was planned, I didn't labor, etc.  I was only in the hospital for 3 nights while I was in the hospital for 5 nights the first time.  It was such an improvement! I'm hoping my third c-section goes well too.

  • My hospital stay was the same both times. My Midwife said I could have left a day earlier but I chose to stay to recover, relax and sleep! Once you come home there is no going back (as in you are on your own---let someoen else take care of the NB so you can rest up.)

As for my recovery both were the same; I labored for 17 hours with my first and about 12 hours with my second (she was scheduled section but I went into labor day early). GL

  • i had #1 on a saturday and wasn't sent home til thursday!!! I felt like the nurses were no help and i was going crazy. with  #2 i had him on friday night and got sent home sunday.  Recovery was way better... physically and emotionally!! my mom had ds #1 with her for 1 1/2 weeks after i came home, just to help me recover! I still saw him everyday though.

    Good luck!

hospital stay was the same length for both (4 nights). Recovery was better the 2nd time around, probably because I didn't labor at all with #2 and because they gave me a belly "binder" that kindof held in all of the blubber and, imo, made the healing easier and faster.

I LOVED being in the hospital!  I wish I could go back.  People take care of you and bring you already-cooked, well-balanced meals.  You get to spend some time just bonding with your new baby.  DS1 was perfectly safe and happy at our house with my mom, and she brought him by to visit during the hospital stay, of course.

DS2 came the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, too, so almost all of my would-be-visitors were OOT or doing other stuff, so I just got to sleep for 4 days. Still interrupted sleep with the nurses coming in and the BFing often, but still. Awesome.  Almost makes me want to have a third so I can do it again. :)
