3rd Trimester

Was that my water breaking? (Prob TMI)

I am confused. DH and I had sex and when he pulled out of me we heard kind of a funny popping-type sucking sound (could've just been from the position, I dunno).

After a few minutes of laying there I went the bathroom to pee, and when I sat down it felt like stuff really ran out of me. I was peeing, but it seemed like a lot more than that coming out of me, not just from my bladder. I could kind of stop the flow of it, too, but only for a second.

I have no idea what that was. It stopped after a minute or so, but it just felt very weird and not normal for that type of activity. DIdn't look like mucus plug, no color or odor that I could really tell.

Oh, I feel so stupid....wondering if I should just wait and see or do something. Any thoughts?

  • butting in sorry came over to admire your lovely bumps over here. my doctor always told me with DD if i could soak a pad in an hour to call them because its possible it could be your water.

  • dont feel dumb. If its your water its gush out in small spurts or it'll tidal wave out of ya.. you'll know if it your water. I say just relax and see what happens from there. gl!

when mine broke with DD i felt like i had just peed the bed. I was being induced and at midnight i rolled over to get more comfortable and it was ooo what was that lol.

  • I think when you get to this point, you just question if anything is labor-related. This was probably just sex-related, but since that never has happened before I am worried. It doesn't help that it's 1:30 am my time. I suppose I will just chill out and try to sleep and see what happens.

Doesn't seem to be continually gushing at all. Totally dry for half hour or so now, whether laying down or walking around. Maybe nothing to worry about. Oi.

  • Dr. told me that if you're not sure to walk around for a little while and then go lay down and see if you start leaking again.  When you're standing the baby's head almost works like a cork, then when you lay down the pressure from the baby's head will be less and allow for the flow of your water.  If it was then good luck and congrats!

yea from about 35 weeks on with DD i had many many time i was like oh did my water break but not to sound gross it was just discharge or some sort or pee who knows. but they do say that it increases when your pregnant gross and yuckie but normal unless its continuing to trickle or gush try not to freak. maybe have DH bring you some ice cream in bed?

  • Sounds like it was just sex related. You won't be able to stop the water flow if it was.

That's a good point.  Probably also why for most women whose water breaks before they go to the hospital, it happens in bed.

That's reassuring. If we hadn't just had sex, I would be way less confused, as it would definitely seem to mean something. This is just the first time I've questioned anything related to "is this it?". DH was sound asleep by the time I got back from the bathroom. lol.

haha with my first it was a tidal wave and with my son my water was broke so it was random gushes.. gotta love labor

  • Kind of like what everyone else said if it was your water breaking it will continue to come out.  When I went to the hospital they told me they had to have a janitor clean all the way from the emergency entrance down the hall through the elevator and over to the labor and delivery wing and my water had first broken an hour earlier.  Just relax and lay around and then stand up again in another 30-45 minutes.  If it happens again congrats!  You will be a mommy in 12-24 hours!!!
