Cluster feeding ? For BF mamas

DD has been waking up the past 3 nights from around 1 am- 6 am every hour to nurse. She then sleeps 4 hours straight before I have to wake her to nurse. Is it possible for me to offer her to nurse every hour from like 6 pm - 11 pm to move her cluster feeding up so mom can sleep? Is it to early for me to lead? She is 10 days old today. Thanks!!!

  • You can try whatever you want, but nothing worked with DS except just barreling through the cluster feedings.  It was always a rough few days, but usually his cluster feeding only lasted a few days to a week (he was a middle of the night cluster feeder as well) and he usually slept longer stretches the days after the cluster feeds so I just napped with him.

  • You totally could try it, but it may not work.  If it helps Luke cluster fed like crazy for about a week, and now he doesnt need to do it as often.  We still have our nights, but it wont last forever.
  • Are you undressing her to feed & attempting to wake her when she sleeps?  If she can eat a bit longer maybe she'd sleep a better stretch.

DS is cluster feeding in the evenings and early mornings right now; thankfully his long stretches of sleep are at night.  Like PP said, you pretty much just have to work through it.  GL!

  • Thanks ladies! Sometimes it just helps knowing there are others in the same boat! I'll give it a try knowing if it doesn't work it won't last forever! :)

  • I am in almost the exact same situation.  DD is 10 days old and for the past 2 or 3 nights, has been awake from about 12:30 to 4:00, eating every 20-45 minutes and maybe sleeping 10-20 minutes in between--I don't even get her back in her bassinet before she is hungry again.  Then she wants to eat again at 6:00 and sleeps til 11 or noon.  I am happy people are saying it is temporary.
