Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6-7 month olds....still swaddled AND nursed to sleep?

I fee like I am the only one STILL doing this LOL

It works great for us, so I am not certainly not going to try to fix was isn't broken....

But, there is a small part of me that thinks maybe I shouldn't keep doing this...

  • I still nurse Henry to sleep for every single nap, but we don't swaddle. I know it's a terrible habit, but he is so comforted by it and it works!

  • Don't feel bad - DS is 6.5 months and I still nurse to sleep for naps.  I just stopped swaddling last week because we started sleep training at night and he was fighting it when I'd wrap him up at bedtime.
  • Don't feel bad.  We stopped swaddling last week as well because DD always broke loose.  It was sad when I put her swaddling blanket away.

  • Yep, we are still doing both, and I could care less what people think. I did the same with my first, and she eventually grew out of needing both. The only thing that makes me want to stop swaddling is its now so hot, I think he'd be more comfortable, but we'll see.
  • We stil nurse to sleep naps and bedtime. We never swaddled!

DS goes down awake for naps, but I still nurse him to sleep for the night... eh. Whatever. It works for now and he STTN - choose your battles!

  • We just stopped swaddling a month ago and she still sleeps in the sleep sack at night.  I nurse her to sleep too and it works for the most part.  For a while she was waking up all night to nurse, but I did sleep training with her and now she STTN, and is still nursing to sleep and gets a dream feed.  I'm starting to worry a little about her naps.  The last two naps I've nursed her to sleep and then she's woken up 15 minutes later.  Anyway, if it works for your baby then there's no reason to change it.

This. I ended up buying a lightweight swaddling blanket at Nordstrom just so she could be more comfortable. I think it's called swaddle designs.

We swaddle for naps, and nurse to sleep at night.  I just found out that DH has been bottlefeeding him to sleep the past few weeks during the day when I work, so you really aren't the only one!

  • DS1 was nursed to sleep for a long time.  In fact, I didn't cut the bedtime nursing until he was 18 months and that's pretty much always how he fell asleep for the night.  Swaddling we stopped when he was breaking loose, around 3+ months.  DS2 is still swaddled at 4 months, but we're working on de-swaddling (so far just naps without it).  And I have no problem nursing him to sleep, although it doesn't always do the trick with him.  One thing though, if your LO is rolling, which is likely at 6/7 months, it really isn't safe to continue swaddling.  I suggest you switch to a sleepsack, like the Halo ones, instead.  It could be dangerous if she rolled while swaddled and didn't have her arms free to help her lift her head.

  • we still swaddle too.  DS rolls during the day like a crazy man but doesn't move at night.  i nurse him before bed at night but it doesn't make him fall asleep, just get sleepy.  i just hope that it helps him sleep longer.  he'll let us know when he's ready to not get swaddled anymore.
