Natural Birth

Hypnobabies? Maybe?

Just wondering if any other moms have used hypnobabies before? I've been looking into it and it seems pretty interesting.   Does it work?  Would you recommend it for a first time mom? Thank you!! :

  • DH and I read the Hypnobirthing by Mongan. Yes, it works as long as you have a support person coaching you throughout the contractions.  I am a first time mom and would highly recommend it.  We also used the Bradley Method - McCutcheon and some of those tools worked for me as well. GL

  • Hey I also saw your post at the nest.. so I'll reply here as well.

Absolutely I have, I love it! I've used it for all three of my births. Two were home births and one was a hospital birth at 35 weeks.

I've had very comfortable births thanks to Hypnobabies, I've been able to focus and keep calm in the knowledge that everything is okay, everything is normal.

My pressure waves (contractions) were more like pressure and tightening than painful.

My first pregnancy I did hypnobirthing and felt it incredibly lacking. It's great for guided imagery and if that works for some moms GREAT! But for me, I needed detail. That's what Hypnobabies has.

It's an entire childbirth education. The homestudy course comes with all the scripts on cd, and the live class comes with paper scripts (unless you need/would prefer the cds)

It has loads of information for birth partner and how to best support you in your birthing time.

And it's real medical hypnosis. The techniques can be used for more than just birth, and I've seen many women use it for other surgeries instead of drugs.

Plus they teach something called "eyes open hypnosis". I'm a pretty active birther. I like to be up and rocking, walking, bouncing on the birth ball. I can do that with Hypnobabies. With hypnobirthing I had to literally keep still because as soon as I moved I'd lose my hypnotic state. But with Hypnobabies, you'll learn about your lightswitch and how that can help you to control the feelings in your body. You'll have a peace cue to add more physical comfort to a SPECIFIC area if you need it.

I *never* and I mean *never* felt the "ring of fire", thanks to my Hypnobabies techniques.

So yes. I highly recommend Hypnobabies. lol

Also you don't have to have a coach with Hypnobabies. It certainly helps if you have people around you who are encouraging of your want for a drug free birth using Hypnosis, and that maybe know some of the Hypnobabies cues. But it's not a must. There are many single moms who use Hypnobabies and do just fine with no support.

Check out www.pregnancybirthandbabies.com for some great birth stories!! and youtube has some wonderful hypnosis births as well. my babies are both on there. my channel is mommymichael

  • I just had my first baby and used the hypnobabies home course. I did end up with a c section but I labored/pushed at home for about 6 hours after I was dialated to 10cm. I never really felt like labor hurt at all, uncomfortable at times...yes..but not painful. Im not sure if this is because I was so realxed listening to my hypnobabies or not, but hey it cant hurt. the only reason my midwife even knew I was going through "transition" was because I asked my husband for my chapstick and he was taking his sweet time about it and I said " Id kind of like it today babe." And when I was pushing and had LO super low--I could see his hair in the mirror--I never felt that burning ring of fire that everyone says is so awful.

Also, it was really a blessing to have during the pregnancy because when  would listen to my hypnobabies before bed I would sleep through the night without having to get up 40 times to pee.

And FWIW, my husband was supportive, but didnt really participate and I still felt like I got a lot out of the course. Even though at first even i thought it was really cheezy with the "Bubble of Peace" and everything but I did grow to embrace that too and I needed it many times. So even if you dont have a partner going through the course with you, it will still be fine. I would definetly reccomend doing it though!

  • I am SO happy to see you (and the poster below) post this.  I am in the 4th course of the home study program and I absolutely love it.  It is so encouraging to read the positive birth experiences and to know that several women have had such success with the program.  Thank you!

  • i used hypnobabies (home course) for my second baby, first natural birth and it was awesome.

there is a yahoo group you can join if you're considering hypnobabies, it is really great.  the women post birth stories on there that will blow your mind.

  • Hi Ladies!

Thank you for all your input and great stories you shared.  They have helped me a lot!  This site is great :)  I think I'm going to go ahead and get the Hypnobabies course.  I will report back and let everyone know how the experience was for me.
