I was 41 weeks exactly (due June 17th) when I gave birth to my little girl. I was originally scheduled to be induced Wednesday the 23rd @ 1145 pm, but started labor on my own on the 23rd sometime after midnight. I went into active labor around 430am where I had massive amounts of cervix mucus mixed with blood. My contractions were 3-5 min apart, lasting around a min, for over an hour. We went into L&D around 530 am, and I had only progressed half a centimeter from my 40 week apt, but had effaced to 70%. Even though I was supposed to be induced that night I was sent home to labor more (had I been 4 cm they would have kept me, but were very busy 15 babies born that day).
Dh took me home where I labored 9 more hours naturally. I had intended to go all natural but at some point my water bag had fallen out of my cervix and I had the extreme urge to push so DH drove me back in to L&D. When I arrived I was 6 cm and completely effaced. The pain from the contactions was nothing I could describe. I had massive amounts of back labor, and literally was in an altered state of mind from the pain. Because I had a ballooned water, I made the decision that the pain was more than I could handle and so had IV drugs put in. I am proud to say I made it to 8 cm on my own before the IV. Once the IV wore off, I was going back to the intense pain and decided to have an epidural even though I was scared to death to have anything in my back. After the epidural, they broke my water and it turns out DD, had released marconium in the water and there was a real danger of aspiration so they put something in to continually flush around her. After the epidural, I stayed at 8 for over an hour so they decided to give me a little pictocin. The only complication that came from the epidural was that I had what they called a window, a spot the size of my hand on my lower abdomen, where I guess the fluid couldn't get to, so I felt the full effects of the labor in that area only.
After 21 hours of labor, and 15 min of pushing (6 pushes) Chloe Sophia arrived at 2:56 am June 24th. She is 7lbs 12 ounces, 21 inches long. She scored a 9 on her apgars and did not apirate anything. She has a full head of dark hair ( I had massive heartburn) and as for breast feeding, she instantly latched and started feeding within 5 minutes of being on my chest. So far its going great. I had a 1st degree tear, and have some stiches, but it doesn't hurt like I thought it would. What hurts the most is my breasts from feeding.
Although I didn't get to have an all natural birth like I had planned, and had complications with my water, I am so happy to be a mom and have fallen deeper in love with DH than I ever thought I could. He is such a great dad...I wish you all easy and quick labors, and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll see you all soon on 0-3 ![]()
