Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I hate it when people don't think...

We went out to dinner tonight with my MIL because it was her last night here. Somehow or another we started talking about tattoos and she was telling us about one this guy she dated had. It was an angel with a baby in her arms. It was for his daughter that died from SIDS... Then she continued to tell us the story in a good bit of detail... OMG! I started crying at the table! I am so afraid to even take my eyes off him! He is fast asleep right now in my arms and I know I need to go lay him down in his bassinet (which is right across from our bed in our bedroom) but I just can't convince myself to... Thanks MIL....

  • I hear ya! The week we came home from the hospital we had a home visit from our local health department and they bring all of this information to you.  In the process she says, and you know about SIDS right? Now I don't know what vibe I was giving this lady that she felt I didn't know about it, but I was sorta taken back and she goes into this big long speech about it.  I start bawling and I'm very upset, no one likes to think about SIDS you know.  Then, before she left she tells me and DH she thinks perhaps I have PPD. HUH? You just brought up a scary topic and I cried, why does that make me PPD?  It's scary!
  • A similar story was told to me recently and I also felt really nervous. My SIL said one of her cousins lost his 6 month old to SIDS a couple weeks ago. Not only did it make me worry about my little 2 month old, but also made me realize that it's a while yet 'til we're in the clear.

I know that we have to be educated about SIDS, but I don't know why people think they need to share all of the scary stories that they know!  My BFF was going on and on about how she thinks if it's meant to happen it'll happen, no matter what you do, and then proceeded to tell me about a friend of hers who's LO died from sids in his carseat on a short ride.  Information I could of lived without!  I hate taking him in the car as it is, now I am just terrifed!
