Indiana Babies

Photog Ladies

My cousin just had a DD. I was secretly really wanted to take her pictures but didn't want my cousin to feel like she had to let me take some. Well I just talked to her and she asked me if I would, so of course I said yes.

Obviously I'm new to this whole photography thing and have never photographed a newborn! What props would you recommend? I'd like to take them outside, in the shade, but should I get a bucket and fill it with blankets with the baby on top? Any good sites you can recommend with ideas?

Re: Photog Ladies

  • There was just a post today on the Photography board asking the same thing.  Those girls had lots of good tips! I saved it for future reference for myself as well!

  • hmm I've never used "props" except for a boppy (next time I'm going to use a bean bag, seems a lot better) and then I would ask your cousin if she has any special hats or blankets she wants to include.

I was going to suggest a space heater, but it's like 80bajillion degrees outside :)

As far as bucket-things, I'm not sure, but I would scour Etsy.  I bet if you looked even at Target, let's say, you could find some neat ideas.

  • I used a boppy with baby girl, but when I started taking pictures of my friend's babies I got a cheap bean bag--really helps!  I went to goodwills to get some baskets, and I got some bucket things at Home Goods.
  • I'm obsessssed with Little Moon Photography. (You've probably seen it since she's on the photog boad) Check her site out for some ideas.  I also LOVE Picket Fence (in Carmel) but they are indoor/studio style.
  • thanks everyone!! great ideas!!
