Yesterday, I had my DD and DS out for a walk in our Kolcraft Contours tandem stroller. They were both strapped into their seats. I was walking along a paved path next to a duck pond across the street from our house. I parked the stroller on the path with the two kids in it and put on ALL FOUR BRAKES. I took maybe 2-3 steps in front of the stroller to try and lure the ducks over by throwing pieces of bread. The next thing I know, the stroller comes barreling to my left down the hill towards the pond. I run as fast as I can to get it, but its going downhill very fast. I manage to grab onto the handle and pull with all my might, but between the speed of it going downhill and the weight of the two kids, I was unable to stop it. The stroller went INTO THE POND and tipped on its side. The stroller got stuck on a rock and I was unable to pull it up. I had to unstrap both kids immediately to get them out. My DS was completely UNDER WATER and I saw his struggling face looking at me as I pulled him out. Luckily, since the stroller was on its side, my DD was able to pull her head up so it wasn't under water. I pulled both kids out and made sure they were ok. Thankfully, they were ok physically, just crying because they were wet and stunned. I lost my cell phone and flip flops in the pond so I couldn't call anyone for help. Normally there are a ton of people walking around, but there was no one. They were both covered in mud and filth from the water. I got home as fast as I could and bathed them both immediately. They were both fine and even went to sleep after this whole ordeal. I called the pedi and asked them if I needed to do anything, but they said not to worry, that the worse that could happen is they swallowed a bit of water and may get diarrhea in the next 24 hours. I have never been so scared in my entire life. I will forever have the image of my children rolling down that hill in the stroller and into the pond. It will haunt me for the rest of my life.
Iam filing a consumer report on this stroller. I also spoke with Kolcraft that basically told me I must have done something wrong, that the brakes should have been fine. UNBELIEVABLE!
Please pass this on to anyone you know with this stroller. I would hate to see this happen to someone else.
Re: RP: STROLLER BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED!
I have the same stroller and there are only 2 brakes.
That must have been terribly scary
I meant brakes on all four of the wheels.
Yeah, I only have 2
Do you have the ruby or twilight? I have the ruby.
